ततॊ भागी रथी तीरे मेध्ये पुण्यजनॊचिते
निवासम अकरॊद राजा विदुरस्या मते सथिताः
Vaishampayana said, “At the very outset the mighty-armed hero ofDasharha’s race understood from signs the intention of Drona’s son.
“Vaisampayana said, ‘Reflecting (for a moment), with eyes red in anger,he, of Dasarha’s race, addressing Duryodhana in that assembly of theKurus, then said these words, ‘Wishest thou for a bed of heroes?
“Dhritarashtra said, ‘When the van of my army thus slaughtered by thediadem-decked (Arjuna) broke and fled, who were those heroes thatadvanced against Arjuna? (Did any of them actually fight with Arjuna, or)did all, abandoning their determination enter the Sakata array, gettingbehind the fearless Drona, resembling a solid wall?’
“Vrihadaswa said, ‘Like a bird coursing through the sky, Nala sooncrossed rivers and mountains, and woods and lakes. And while the car wascoursing thus, that conqueror of hostile cities, the royal son ofBhangasura, saw his upper garment drop down on the ground.
“Vaisampayana said, ‘When that spreader of the renown of Kuru’s race, thestrong-armed Arjuna, set out (for the forest), Brahmanas conversant withthe Vedas walked behind that illustrious hero to a certain distance.
