“Vaisampayana said, ‘Thus addressed by Duryodhana, Karna said, ‘It dothnot seem to me, O Duryodhana, that thy reasoning is well-founded. Operpetuator of the Kuru race, no method will succeed against thePandavas.
“Pulastya said, ‘Then, O great king, one should proceed to the excellenttirtha of Dharma, where the illustrious god of justice had practisedhighly meritorious austerities.
“Narada said, ‘Galava then, addressing Madhavi, said, The ruler of theKasis is an illustrious king known by the name of Divodasa. He is the sonof Bhimasena, is endued with great prowess, and is a mighty sovereign.
“Sanjaya said, ‘Hearing these words of the high-souled Kesava, Subhadra,afflicted with grief on account of the death of her son, began to indulgein these piteous lamentations:
“Vaisampayana said, ‘Asked by Dhritarashtra to give his opinion, Bhishmareplied, ‘O Dhritarashtra, a quarrel with the Pandavas is what I cannever approve of. As thou art to me, so was Pandu without doubt. And thesons of Gandhari are to me, as those of Kunti.
“Pulastya said, ‘One should next proceed, O king, to the adoredKurukshetra at sight of which all creatures are freed from their sins. Heis freed from all sins who constantly sayeth, ‘I will live inKurukshetra.’
“Dhritarashtra said, Alas, great was the distress of that person and verypainful his mode of life! Tell me, O first of speakers, whence was hisattachment to life and whence his happiness?
“Narada said, ‘The illustrious Madhavi, faithful to her promise,abandoning that prosperity and once more becoming a maiden, followed thefootsteps of the Brahmana Galava.
