38a. Sad (1 to 50)
Sad . By the renowned quran_en , Nay , but those who disbelieve are in false pride and schism ., How many a generation We destroyed before them , and …
ص ۚ وَالْقُرْآنِ ذِي الذِّكْرِ (1)
Sad waalqurani thee alththikri
Sad . By the renowned quran_en ,
بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ (2)
Bali allatheena kafaroo fee AAizzatin washiqaqin
Nay , but those who disbelieve are in false pride and schism .
كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ (3)
Kam ahlakna min qablihim min qarnin fanadaw walata heena manasin
How many a generation We destroyed before them , and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape!
وَعَجِبُوا أَن جَاءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ (4)
WaAAajiboo an jaahum munthirun minhum waqala alkafiroona hatha sahirun kaththabun
And they marvel that a warner from among themselves hath come unto them , and the disbelievers say : This is a wizard , a charlatan .
أَجَعَلَ الْآلِهَةَ إِلَٰهًا وَاحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ (5)
AjaAAala alalihata ilahan wahidan inna hatha lashayon AAujabun
Maketh he the gods One God? Lo! that is an astounding thing .
وَانطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَىٰ آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَادُ (6)
Waintalaqa almalao minhum ani imshoo waisbiroo AAala alihatikum inna hatha lashayon yuradu
The chiefs among them go about , exhorting : Go and be staunch to your gods! Lo! this is a thing designed .
مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الْآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا اخْتِلَاقٌ (7)
Ma samiAAna bihatha fee almillati alakhirati in hatha illa ikhtilaqun
We have not heard of this in later religion . This is naught but an invention .
أَأُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِن بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِي ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ (8)
Aonzila AAalayhi alththikru min baynina bal hum fee shakkin min thikree bal lamma yathooqoo AAathabi
Hath the reminder been revealed unto him ( alone ) among us? Nay , but they are in doubt concerning My reminder ; nay but they have not yet tasted My doom .
أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ (9)
Am AAindahum khazainu rahmati rabbika alAAazeezi alwahhabi
Or are theirs the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord , the Mighty , the Bestower?
أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي الْأَسْبَابِ (10)
Am lahum mulku alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma falyartaqoo fee alasbabi
Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them theirs? Then let them ascend by ropes!
جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ الْأَحْزَابِ (11)
Jundun ma hunalika mahzoomun mina alahzabi
A defeated host are ( all ) the factions that are there .
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْأَوْتَادِ (12)
Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohin waAAadun wafirAAawnu thoo alawtadi
The folk of Noah before them denied ( their messenger ) and ( so did the tribe of ) Aad , and Pharaoh firmly planted ,
وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ الْأَحْزَابُ (13)
Wathamoodu waqawmu lootin waashabu alaykati olaika alahzabu
And ( the tribe of ) Thamud ; and the folk of Lot , and the dwellers in the wood : these were the factions .
إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ (14)
In kullun illa kaththaba alrrusula fahaqqa AAiqabi
Not one of them but did deny the messengers , therefor My doom was justified ,
وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ (15)
Wama yanthuru haolai illa sayhatan wahidatan ma laha min fawaqin
These wait for but one Shout , there will be no second thereto .
وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ (16)
Waqaloo rabbana AAajjil lana qittana qabla yawmi alhisabi
They say : Our Lord! Hasten on for us our fate before the Day of Reckoning .
اصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُودَ ذَا الْأَيْدِ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ (17)
Isbir AAala ma yaqooloona waothkur AAabdana dawooda tha alaydi innahu awwabun
Bear with what they say , and remember Our bondman David , lord of might . Lo! he was ever turning in repentance ( toward Allah ) .
إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا الْجِبَالَ مَعَهُ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِيِّ وَالْإِشْرَاقِ (18)
Inna sakhkharna aljibala maAAahu yusabbihna bialAAashiyyi waalishraqi
Lo! We subdued the hills to hymn the praises ( of their Lord ) with him at nightfall and sunrise ,
وَالطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً ۖ كُلٌّ لَّهُ أَوَّابٌ (19)
Waalttayra mahshooratan kullun lahu awwabun
And the birds assembled ; all were turning unto Him
وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ (20)
Washadadna mulkahu waataynahu alhikmata wafasla alkhitabi
We made his kingdom strong and gave him wisdom and decisive speech .
۞ وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ نَبَأُ الْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا الْمِحْرَابَ (21)
Wahal ataka nabao alkhasmi ith tasawwaroo almihraba
And hath the story of the litigants come unto thee? How they climbed the wall into the royal chamber ;
إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَىٰ دَاوُودَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ ۖ قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ ۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَاهْدِنَا إِلَىٰ سَوَاءِ الصِّرَاطِ (22)
Ith dakhaloo AAala dawooda fafaziAAa minhum qaloo la takhaf khasmani bagha baAAduna AAala baAAdin faohkum baynana bialhaqqi wala tushtit waihdina ila sawai alssirati
How they burst in upon David , and he was afraid of them . They said Be not afraid ( We are ) two litigants , one of whom hath wronged the other , therefor judge aright between us ; be not unjust ; and show us the fair way .
إِنَّ هَٰذَا أَخِي لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِيَ نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي الْخِطَابِ (23)
Inna hatha akhee lahu tisAAun watisAAoona naAAjatan waliya naAAjatun wahidatun faqala akfilneeha waAAazzanee fee alkhitabi
Lo! this my brother hath ninety and nine ewes while I had one ewe ; and he said : Entrust it to me , and he conquered me in speech .
قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِ ۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الْخُلَطَاءِ لَيَبْغِي بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْ ۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُودُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّاهُ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ ۩ (24)
Qala laqad thalamaka bisuali naAAjatika ila niAAajihi wainna katheeran mina alkhulatai layabghee baAAduhum AAala baAAdin illa allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati waqaleelun ma hum wathanna dawoodu annama fatannahu faistaghfara rabbahu wakharra rakiAAan waanaba
( David ) said : He hath wronged thee in demanding thine ewe in addition to his ewes , and lo! many partners oppress one another , save such as believe and do good works , and they are few . And David guessed that We had tried him , and he sought forgiveness of his Lord , and he bowed himself and fell down prostrate and repented .
فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ (25)
Faghafarna lahu thalika wainna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maabin
So We forgave him that ; and lo! he had access to Our presence and a happy journey ' s end .
يَا دَاوُودُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاكَ خَلِيفَةً فِي الْأَرْضِ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ بِمَا نَسُوا يَوْمَ الْحِسَابِ (26)
Ya dawoodu inna jaAAalnaka khaleefatan fee alardi faohkum bayna alnnasi bialhaqqi wala tattabiAAi alhawa fayudillaka AAan sabeeli Allahi inna allatheena yadilloona AAan sabeeli Allahi lahum AAathabun shadeedun bima nasoo yawma alhisabi
( And it was said unto him ) : O David! Lo! We have set thee as a viceroy in the earth ; therefor judge aright between mankind , and follow not desire that it beguile thee from the way of Allah . Lo! those who wander from the way of Allah have an awful doom , forasmuch as they forgot the Day of Reckoning .
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ النَّارِ (27)
Wama khalaqna alssamaa waalarda wama baynahuma batilan thalika thannu allatheena kafaroo fawaylun lillatheena kafaroo mina alnnari
And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in vain . That is the opinion of those who disbelieve . And woe unto those who disbelieve , from the Fire!
أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ كَالْمُفْسِدِينَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الْمُتَّقِينَ كَالْفُجَّارِ (28)
Am najAAalu allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati kaalmufsideena fee alardi am najAAalu almuttaqeena kaalfujjari
Shall We treat those who believe and do good works as those who spread corruption in the earth ; or shall We treat the Pious as the wicked?
كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ (29)
Kitabun anzalnahu ilayka mubarakun liyaddabbaroo ayatihi waliyatathakkara oloo alalbabi
( This is ) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee , full of blessing , that they may ponder its revelations , and that men of understanding may reflect .
وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُودَ سُلَيْمَانَ ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ (30)
Wawahabna lidawooda sulaymana niAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun
And We bestowed on David , Solomon . How excellent a slave! Lo! he was ever turning in repentance ( toward Allah ) .
إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ الصَّافِنَاتُ الْجِيَادُ (31)
Ith AAurida AAalayhi bialAAashiyyi alssafinatu aljiyadu
When there were shown to him at eventide light footed coursers
فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ (32)
Faqala innee ahbabtu hubba alkhayri AAan thikri rabbee hatta tawarat bialhijabi
And he said : Lo! I have preferred the good things ( of the world ) to the remembrance of my Lord ; till they were taken out of sight behind the curtain .
رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ (33)
Ruddooha AAalayya fatafiqa mashan bialssooqi waalaAAnaqi
( Then he said ) : Bring them back to me , and fell to slashing ( with his sword their ) legs and necks .
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَانَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ (34)
Walaqad fatanna sulaymana waalqayna AAala kursiyyihi jasadan thumma anaba
And verily We tried Solomon , and set upon his throne a ( mere ) body . Then did he repent .
قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَهَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَّا يَنبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِّن بَعْدِي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ (35)
Qala rabbi ighfir lee wahab lee mulkan la yanbaghee liahadin min baAAdee innaka anta alwahhabu
He said : My Lord! Forgive me and bestow on me sovereignty such shall not belong to any after me . Lo! Thou art the Bestower .
فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ الرِّيحَ تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ رُخَاءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ (36)
Fasakhkharna lahu alrreeha tajree biamrihi rukhaan haythu asaba
So We made the wind subservient unto him , setting fair by his command whithersoever he intended .
وَالشَّيَاطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّاءٍ وَغَوَّاصٍ (37)
Waalshshayateena kulla bannain waghawwasin
And the unruly , every builder and diver ( made We subservient ) ,
وَآخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِي الْأَصْفَادِ (38)
Waakhareena muqarraneena fee alasfadi
And others linked together in chains ,
هَٰذَا عَطَاؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ (39)
Hatha AAataona faomnun aw amsik bighayri hisabin
( Saying ) : This is Our gift , so bestow thou , or withhold , without reckoning .
وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ (40)
Wainna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maabin
And lo! he hath favor with Us , and a happy journey ' s end .
وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ (41)
Waothkur AAabdana ayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya alshshaytanu binusbin waAAathabin
And make mention ( O Muhammad ) of Our bondman Job , when he cried unto his Lord ( saying ) : Lo! the devil doth afflict me with distress and torment .
ارْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ (42)
Orkud birijlika hatha mughtasalun baridun washarabun
( And it was said unto him ) : Strike the ground with thy foot . This ( spring ) is a cool bath and a refreshing drink .
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ (43)
Wawahabna lahu ahlahu wamithlahum maAAahum rahmatan minna wathikra liolee alalbabi
And We bestowed on him ( again ) his household and therewith the like thereof , a mercy from Us , and a memorial for men of understanding .
وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَاضْرِب بِّهِ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَاهُ صَابِرًا ۚ نِّعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ (44)
Wakhuth biyadika dighthan faidrib bihi wala tahnath inna wajadnahu sabiran niAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun
And ( it was said unto him ) : Take in thine hand a branch and smite therewith , and break not twine oath . Lo! We found him steadfast , how excellent a slave! Lo! he was ever turning in repentance ( to his Lord ) .
وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُولِي الْأَيْدِي وَالْأَبْصَارِ (45)
Waothkur AAibadana ibraheema waishaqa wayaAAqooba olee alaydee waalabsari
And me mention of our bondmen , Abraham , Isaac and Jacob , men of parts and vision .
إِنَّا أَخْلَصْنَاهُم بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى الدَّارِ (46)
Inna akhlasnahum bikhalisatin thikra alddari
Lo! We purified them with a pure thought , remembrance of the Home ( of the Hereafter ) .
وَإِنَّهُمْ عِندَنَا لَمِنَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ الْأَخْيَارِ (47)
Wainnahum AAindana lamina almustafayna alakhyari
Lo! in Our sight they are verily of the elect , the excellent .
وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِّنَ الْأَخْيَارِ (48)
Waothkur ismaAAeela wailyasaAAa watha alkifli wakullun mina alakhyari
And make mention of Ishmael and Elisha and Dhul Kifl . All are of the chosen .
هَٰذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ (49)
Hatha thikrun wainna lilmuttaqeena lahusna maabin
This is a reminder . And lo! for those who ward off ( evil ) is a happy journey ' s end ,
جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ مُّفَتَّحَةً لَّهُمُ الْأَبْوَابُ (50)
Jannati AAadnin mufattahatan lahumu alabwabu
Gardens of Eden , whereof the gates are opened for them .
