89. Al-Fajr (1 to 30)

By the dawn, And [by] ten nights, And [by] the even [number] and the odd, And [by] the night when it passes,…

wa’lfajri

By the dawn

89.2

wa’lʃ:afʕi wa’lwatri

And [by] the even [number] and the odd

89.4

wa’l:ayli ‘ʔiða’ yasri

And [by] the night when it passes,

89.5

hal fiy ðalika qasamunm l:iðiy ḥijrin

Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of
perception?

89.6

‘ʔalam tara kayfa faʕala rab:uka biʕa’din

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad -

89.7

‘ʔirama ða’ti ‘lʕima’di

[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,

89.8

‘l:atiy lam yuxlaq mièluha’ fiy ‘lbiladi

The likes of whom had never been created in the land?

89.9

waèamuwda ‘l:aًiyna ja’buw’ ‘lṣ:axra bi’lwa’di

And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?

wafirʕawna ًiy ‘l’ʔawta’di

And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? -

‘l:aًiyna ṭaɣaw’ fiy ‘lbiladi

[All of] whom oppressed within the lands

89.12

fa’ʔakèaruw’ fiyha’ ‘lfasa’da

And increased therein the corruption.

89.13

faṣab:a ʕalayhim rab:uka sawṭa ʕaًa’bin

So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

89.14

‘ʔin:a rab:aka labi’lmirṣa’di

Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

89.15

fa’ʔam:a’ ‘l’ʔinsanu ‘ʔiًa’ ma’ ‘btalay’hu rab:uhuw fa’ʔakramahuw wanaʕ:amahuw fayaquwlu rab:iyʔ ‘ʔakramani

And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is
generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has
honored me."

89.16

wa’ʔam:a’ʔ ‘ʔiًa’ ma’ ‘btalay’hu faqadara ʕalayhi rizqahuw fayaquwlu rab:iyʔ ‘ʔahanani

But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he
says, "My Lord has humiliated me."

89.17

kal:a’ sl’ bal l:a’ tukrimuwna ‘lyatiyma

No! But you do not honor the orphan

89.18

wala’ taḥaʔḍ:uwna ʕalay’ ṭaʕa’mi ‘lmiskiyni

And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

89.19

wata’ʔkuluwna ‘lt:ura’èa ‘ʔaklanm’ l:am:anm’

And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,

89.20

watuḥib:uwna ‘lma’la ḥub:anm’ jam:anm’

And you love wealth with immense love.

89.21

kal:a’ʔ ‘ʔiًa’ duk:ati ‘l’ʔarḍu dak:anm’ dak:anm’

No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and
crushed -

89.22

waja’ʔʔa rab:uka wa’lmalaku ṣaf:anm’ ṣaf:anm’

And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,

89.23

waji’yʔʔa yawmayʔiًinm bijahan:ama j yawmayʔiًinm yataًak:aru ‘l’ʔinsanu wa’ʔan:ay’ lahu ‘lً:ikray’

And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day,
man will remember, but what good to him will be the
remembrance?

89.24

yaquwlu yalaytaniy qad:amtu liḥaya’tiy

He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for
my life."

89.25

fayawmayʔiًinm l:a’ yuʕaً:ibu ʕaًa’bahuwʔ ‘ʔaḥadunm

So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His
punishment,

89.26

wala’ yuwèiqu waèa’qahuwʔ ‘ʔaḥadunm

And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the
evildoers].

89.27

yaʔ’ʔay:atuha’ ‘ln:afsu ‘lmuṭmayʔin:atu

[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,

89.28

‘rjiʕiyʔ ‘ʔilay’ rab:iki ra’ḍiyatanm m:arḍiy:atanm

Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

89.29

fa’dxuliy fiy ʕibadiy

And enter among My [righteous] servants

89.30

wa’dxuliy jan:atiy

And enter My Paradise."
