एक बूढ़ी औरत के दो बेटे थे | उनका नाम इवान और तात्या था | वह दोनों को बहुत प्यार करती थी | एक बार एक दुर्घटना में बुढ़िया का बेटा तात्या मारा गया |

उपवन की दशा देखकर राजा हरिश्चंद्र को क्रोध आ गया| उन्होंने सूअर को ललकारा तो सूअर छोड़कर भाग खड़ा हुआ|
पुराने जमाने की बात है। एक शहर में दो व्यापारी आए। इनमें से एक घी का कारोबार करता था, तो दूसरा चमड़े का व्यापार करता था। संयोग से दोनों एक ही मकान में पहुंचे और शरण मांगी। मकान मालिक ने रात होने पर घी वाले व्यापारी को भीतर सुलाया और चमड़े वाले को बाहर बरामदे में।
