अहिंसा वैदिकं कर्म धयानम इन्द्रियसंयमः
तपॊ ऽथ गुरुशुश्रूषा किं शरेयः पुरषं परति
“Vyasa said, ‘Unto a disciple that wishes to enquire after Emancipationafter having transcended all pairs of opposites and accomplished theconcerns of both profit and religion, an accomplished preceptor shouldfirst recount all that has been said in the foregoing section, which iselaborate, on the topic of Adhyatma.
Sanjaya said, “Then the noble Abhimanyu of great energy, borne by hissteeds of a tawny hue, rushed at the mighty host of Duryodhana,scattering his arrowy showers like the clouds pouring torrents of rain.
“Janamejaya said, ‘O excellent Brahmana, thou hast, indeed, told me, inbrief, the history, called Mahabharata, of the great acts of the Kurus.But, O thou of ascetic wealth, recite now that wonderful narration fully.I feel a great curiosity to hear it.
Vaisampayana said, “Then that mighty bowman of blazing splendour, Arjuna,smilingly said unto Chitrasena in the midst of the Gandharva host, ‘Whatpurpose dost thou serve, O hero, in punishing the Kauravas? O, why alsohath Suyodhana with his wives been thus punished?’
गौतम बुद्ध के एक शिष्य पूर्ण ने सीमाप्रांत में धर्म प्रचार करने की अनुमति मांगी। बुद्ध ने कहा, ‘उस प्रांत के लोग अत्यंत कठोर तथा क्रूर हैं। वे तुम्हें गाली देंगे।’ पूर्ण ने कहा, ‘मैं समझूंगा वे भले लोग हैं कि वे मुझे थप्पड़-घूंसे नहीं मारते।’ बुद्ध बोले, ‘यदि वे तुम्हें थप्पड़-घूंसे मारने लगे तो…।’ पूर्ण ने कहा, ‘वे शस्त्र-प्रहार नहीं करेंगे इस कारण मैं उन्हें दयालु मानूंगा।’
