86. At-Tariq (1 to 17)
By the sky and the night comer -, And what can make you know what is the night comer?, It is the piercing star -, There is no soul but that it has over it a protector…
1 وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ
wa’ls:ama’ʔʔi wa’lṭ:a’riqi
By the sky and the night comer -
2 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ
wama’ʔ ‘ʔadray’ka ma’ ‘lṭ:a’riqu
And what can make you know what is the night comer?
3 ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ
‘ln:ajmu ‘lè:a’qibu
It is the piercing star -
4 إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ
‘ʔin kul:u nafsinm l:am:a’ ʕalayha’ ḥa’fiẓunm
There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.
5 فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
falyanẓuri ‘l’ʔinsanu mim:a xuliqa
So let man observe from what he was created.
6 خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ
xuliqa min m:a’ʔʔinm da’fiqinm
He was created from a fluid, ejected,
7 يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ
yaxruju minm bayni ‘lṣ:ulbi wa’lt:ara’ʔyʔibi
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.
8 إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ
‘ʔin:ahuw ʕalay’ rajʕihiy laqa’dirunm
Indeed, Allah , to return him [to life], is Able.
9 يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ
yawma tublay ‘ls:ara’ʔyʔiru
The Day when secrets will be put on trial,
10 فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ
fama’ lahuw min quw:atinm wala’ na’ṣirinm
Then man will have no power or any helper.
11 وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ
wa’ls:ama’ʔʔi ًa’ti ‘lr:ajʕi
By the sky which returns [rain]
12 وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ
wa’l’ʔarḍi ًa’ti ‘lṣ:adʕi
And [by] the earth which cracks open,
13 إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ
‘ʔin:ahuw laqawlunm faṣlunm
Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement,
14 وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ
wama’ huwa bi’lhazli
And it is not amusement.
15 إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا
‘ʔin:ahum yakiyduwna kaydanm’
Indeed, they are planning a plan,
16 وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا
wa’ʔakiydu kaydanm’
But I am planning a plan.
17 فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا
famah:ili ‘lkafiriyna ‘ʔamhilhum ruwaydanm’
So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.
