85. Al-Buruj (1 to 22)
By the sky containing great stars, And [by] the promised Day, And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,..
1 وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ
wa’ls:ama’ʔʔi ða’ti ‘lburuwji
By the sky containing great stars
2 وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ
wa’lyawmi ‘lmawʕuwdi
And [by] the promised Day
3 وَشَاهِدٍۢ وَمَشْهُودٍۢ
waʃa’hidinm wamaʃhuwdinm
And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,
4 قُتِلَ أَصْحَبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ
qutila ‘ʔaṣḥabu ‘l’ʔuxduwdi
Cursed were the companions of the trench
5 ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ
‘ln:a’ri ða’ti ‘lwaquwdi
[Containing] the fire full of fuel,
6 إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌۭ
‘ʔið hum ʕalayha’ quʕuwdunm
When they were sitting near it
7 وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌۭ
wahum ʕalay’ ma’ yafʕaluwna bi’lmuwʔminiyna ʃuhuwdunm
And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.
8 وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ
wama’ naqamuw’ minhum ‘ʔil:a’ʔ ‘ʔan yuwʔminuw’ bi’ll:ahi ‘lʕaziyzi ‘lḥamiydi
And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah , the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,
9 ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَوَتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ
‘l:aðiy lahuw mulku ‘ls:amawati wa’l’ʔarḍi j wa’ll:ahu ʕalay’ kul:i ʃayʔinm ʃahiydun
To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah , over all things, is Witness.
10 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ
‘ʔin:a ‘l:aðiyna fatanuw’ ‘lmuwʔminiyna wa’lmuwʔminati θum:a lam yatuwbuw’ falahum ʕaða’bu jahan:ama walahum ʕaða’bu ‘lḥariyqi
Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.
11 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّلِحَتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّتٌۭ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَرُ ۚ ذَلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
‘ʔin:a ‘l:aðiyna ʔa’manuw’ waʕamiluw’ ‘lṣ:aliḥati lahum jan:atunm tajriy min taḥtiha’ ‘l’ʔanharu j ðalika ‘lfawzu ‘lkabiyru
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.
12 إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ
‘ʔin:a baṭʃa rab:ika laʃadiydun
Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe.
13 إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ
‘ʔin:ahuw huwa yubdiyʔu wayuʕiydu
Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.
14 وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ
wahuwa ‘lɣafuwru ‘lwaduwdu
And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,
15 ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ
ðuw ‘lʕarʃi ‘lmajiydu
Honorable Owner of the Throne,
16 فَعَّالٌۭ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ
faʕ:a’lunm l:ima’ yuriydu
Effecter of what He intends.
17 هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ
hal ‘ʔatay’ka ḥadiyèu ‘ljunuwdi
Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -
18 فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ
firʕawna waèamuwda
[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud?
19 بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍۢ
bali ‘l:aًiyna kafaruw’ fiy takًiybinm
But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,
20 وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ
wa’ll:ahu min wara’ʔyʔihim m:uḥiyṭunm
While Allah encompasses them from behind.
21 بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌۭ مَّجِيدٌۭ
bal huwa qurʔa’nunm m:ajiydunm
But this is an honored Qur'an
22 فِى لَوْحٍۢ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ
fiy lawḥinm m:aḥfuwẓinm
[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.
