1 ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
‘lqa’riʕatu
The Striking Calamity -
2 مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
ma’ ‘lqa’riʕatu
What is the Striking Calamity?
3 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
wama’ʔ ‘ʔadray’ka ma’ ‘lqa’riʕatu
And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?
4 يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ
yawma yakuwnu ‘ln:a’su ka’lfara’ʃi ‘lmabèuwèi
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,
5 وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ
watakuwnu ‘ljiba’lu ka’lʕihni ‘lmanfuwʃi
And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.
6 فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَزِينُهُۥ
fa’ʔam:a’ man èaqulat mawaziynuhuw
Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],
7 فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍۢ رَّاضِيَةٍۢ
fahuwa fiy ʕiyʃatinm r:a’ḍiyatinm
He will be in a pleasant life.
8 وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَزِينُهُۥ
wa’ʔam:a’ man xaf:at mawaziynuhuw
But as for one whose scales are light,
9 فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌۭ
fa’ʔum:uhuw ha’wiyatunm
His refuge will be an abyss.
10 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ
wama’ʔ ‘ʔadray’ka ma’ hiyah
And what can make you know what that is?
11 نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ
na’run ḥa’miyatunm
It is a Fire, intensely hot.
