15b. Al-Hijr (51 to 99)
And tell them of Abraham ‘ s guests , ( How ) when they came in unto him , and said : Peace . …
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ (51)
Wanabbihum AAan dayfi ibraheema
And tell them of Abraham ' s guests ,
إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا سَلَامًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ (52)
Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloo salaman qala inna minkum wajiloona
( How ) when they came in unto him , and said : Peace . He said : Lo! we are afraid of you .
قَالُوا لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ عَلِيمٍ (53)
Qaloo la tawjal inna nubashshiruka bighulamin AAaleemin
They said : Be not afraid! Lo! we bring thee good tidings of a boy possessing wisdom .
قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِي عَلَىٰ أَن مَّسَّنِيَ الْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ (54)
Qala abashshartumoonee AAala an massaniya alkibaru fabima tubashshirooni
He said : Bring ye me good tidings ( of a son ) when old age hath overtaken me? Of what then can ye bring good tidings?
قَالُوا بَشَّرْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ الْقَانِطِينَ (55)
Qaloo bashsharnaka bialhaqqi fala takun mina alqaniteena
They said : We bring thee good tidings in truth . So be not thou of the despairing .
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِ إِلَّا الضَّالُّونَ (56)
Qala waman yaqnatu min rahmati rabbihi illa alddalloona
He said : And who despaireth not the mercy of his Lord save those who are astray?
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ (57)
Qala fama khatbukum ayyuha almursaloona
He said : And afterward what is your business , O ye messengers ( of Allah ) ?
قَالُوا إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ (58)
Qaloo inna orsilna ila qawmin mujrimeena
They said : We have been sent unto a guilty folk .
إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ (59)
Illa ala lootin inna lamunajjoohum ajmaAAeena
( All ) save the family of Lot . Them we shall deliver everyone ,
إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ قَدَّرْنَا ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ (60)
Illa imraatahu qaddarna innaha lamina alghabireena
Except his wife , of whom We had decreed that she should be of those who stay behind .
فَلَمَّا جَاءَ آلَ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلُونَ (61)
Falamma jaa ala lootin almursaloona
And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot ,
قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ (62)
Qala innakum qawmun munkaroona
He said : Lo! ye are folk unknown ( to me ) .
قَالُوا بَلْ جِئْنَاكَ بِمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ (63)
Qaloo bal jinaka bima kanoo feehi yamtaroona
They said : Nay , but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing ,
وَأَتَيْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ (64)
Waataynaka bialhaqqi wainna lasadiqoona
And bring thee the Truth , and lo! we are truth tellers .
فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ وَاتَّبِعْ أَدْبَارَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَامْضُوا حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ (65)
Faasri biahlika biqitAAin mina allayli waittabiAA adbarahum wala yaltafit minkum ahadun waimdoo haythu tumaroona
So travel with thy household in a portion of the night , and follow thou their backs . Let none of you turn round , but go whither ye are commanded .
وَقَضَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ الْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ (66)
Waqadayna ilayhi thalika alamra anna dabira haolai maqtooAAun musbiheena
And We made plain the case to him , that the root of them ( who did wrong ) was to be cut at early morn .
وَجَاءَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ (67)
Wajaa ahlu almadeenati yastabshiroona
And the people of the city came , rejoicing at the news ( of new arrivals ) .
قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ضَيْفِي فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ (68)
Qala inna haolai dayfee fala tafdahooni
He said : Lo! they are my guests . Affront me not!
وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ (69)
Waittaqoo Allaha wala tukhzooni
And keep your duty to Allah , and shame me not!
قَالُوا أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ (70)
Qaloo awalam nanhaka AAani alAAalameena
They said : Have we not forbidden you from ( entertaining ) anyone?
قَالَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي إِن كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ (71)
Qala haolai banatee in kuntum faAAileena
He said : Here are my daughters , if ye must be doing ( so ) .
لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِي سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ (72)
LaAAamruka innahum lafee sakratihim yaAAmahoona
By thy life ( O Muhammad ) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death .
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ (73)
Faakhathathumu alssayhatu mushriqeena
Then the ( Awful ) Cry overtook them at the sunrise .
فَجَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ (74)
FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilaha waamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan min sijjeelin
And We utterly confounded them , and We rained upon them stones of heated clay .
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ (75)
Inna fee thalika laayatin lilmutawassimeena
Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs .
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ (76)
Wainnaha labisabeelin muqeemin
And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced .
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (77)
Inna fee thalika laayatan lilmumineena
Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers .
وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ لَظَالِمِينَ (78)
Wain kana ashabu alaykati lathalimeena
And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil doers .
فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ (79)
Faintaqamna minhum wainnahuma labiimamin mubeenin
So . We took vengeance on them ; and lo! they both are on a high road plain to see .
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَابُ الْحِجْرِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ (80)
Walaqad kaththaba ashabu alhijri almursaleena
And the dwellers in Al-Hijr indeed denied ( Our ) messengers .
وَآتَيْنَاهُمْ آيَاتِنَا فَكَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ (81)
Waataynahum ayatina fakanoo AAanha muAArideena
And We gave them Our revelations , but they were averse to them .
وَكَانُوا يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنِينَ (82)
Wakanoo yanhitoona mina aljibali buyootan amineena
And they used to hew out dwellings from the hills , ( wherein they dwelt ) secure .
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ (83)
Faakhathathumu alssayhatu musbiheena
But the ( Awful ) Cry overtook them at the morning hour ,
فَمَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ (84)
Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanoo yaksiboona
And that which they were wont to count as gain availed them not .
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَآتِيَةٌ ۖ فَاصْفَحِ الصَّفْحَ الْجَمِيلَ (85)
Wama khalaqna alssamawati waalarda wama baynahuma illa bialhaqqi wainna alssaAAata laatiyatun faisfahi alssafha aljameela
We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them save with truth , and lo! the Hour is surely coming . So forgive , O Muhammad , with a gracious forgiveness .
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْخَلَّاقُ الْعَلِيمُ (86)
Inna rabbaka huwa alkhallaqu alAAaleemu
Lo! Thy Lord! He is the All Wise Creator .
وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنَ الْعَظِيمَ (87)
Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan mina almathanee waalqurana alAAatheema
We have given thee seven of the oft repeated ( verses ) and the great quran_en .
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَاجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (88)
La tamuddanna AAaynayka ila ma mattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum wala tahzan AAalayhim waikhfid janahaka lilmumineena
Strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoy , and be not grieved on their account , and lower thy wing ( in tenderness ) for the believers .
وَقُلْ إِنِّي أَنَا النَّذِيرُ الْمُبِينُ (89)
Waqul innee ana alnnatheeru almubeenu
And say : Lo! I , even I , am a plain warner ,
كَمَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى الْمُقْتَسِمِينَ (90)
Kama anzalna AAala almuqtasimeena
Such as We send down for those who make division ,
الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا الْقُرْآنَ عِضِينَ (91)
Allatheena jaAAaloo alqurana AAideena
Those who break the quran_en into parts .
فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ (92)
Fawarabbika lanasalannahum ajmaAAeena
Them , by thy Lord , We shall question , every one ,
عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (93)
AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloona
Of what they used to do .
فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ (94)
FaisdaAA bima tumaru waaAArid AAani almushrikeena
So proclaim that which thou art commanded , and withdraw from the idolaters .
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَاكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ (95)
Inna kafaynaka almustahzieena
Lo! We defend thee from the scoffers ,
الَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ (96)
Allatheena yajAAaloona maAAa Allahi ilahan akhara fasawfa yaAAlamoona
Who set some other god along with Allah . But they will come to know .
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ (97)
Walaqad naAAlamu annaka yadeequ sadruka bima yaqooloona
Well know We that thy bosom is at times oppressed by what they say ,
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ السَّاجِدِينَ (98)
Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wakun mina alssajideena
But hymn the praise of thy Lord , and be of those who make prostration ( unto Him ) .
وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ (99)
WaoAAbud rabbaka hatta yatiyaka alyaqeenu
And serve thy Lord till the inevitable cometh unto thee .
