अध्याय 191
1 भीष्म उवाच
एवम उक्तस्य दूतेन दरुपदस्य तदा नृप
चॊरस्येव गृहीतस्य न परावर्तत भारती
“Vaisampayana said, ‘Hearing these words of the Brahmana, the sons ofKunti seemed to be, as it were, pierced with darts. Indeed, all thosemighty heroes lost their peace of mind.
एक राज था| उसने एक भव्य और मज़बूत महल का निर्माण कराया| सभी ने उस महल की खूब प्रशंसा की| एक बार एक संत-महात्मा राजा के उस महल में आए| राजा ने महात्मा की खूब सेवा-टहल की| उन्हें अपना पूरा महल दिखाया|
गंगे च यमुने चैव गोदावरि सरस्वति ।
नर्मदे सिन्धु कावेरि जलऽस्मिन्सन्निधिं कुरु ।।
“Vaisampayana said, ‘O smiter of foes, when Devaki’s son of mighty armsset out (for Hastinapura), ten mighty car-warriors, capable of slayinghostile heroes, fully armed, followed in his train.
गुरु द्रोणाचार्य ब्राह्मण थे, धनुर्विद्या के महान आचार्य थे, पर बड़े गरीब थे| इतने गरीब थे कि जीवन का निर्वाह होना कठिन था| घर में कुल तीन प्राणी थे – द्रोणाचार्य स्वयं, उनकी पत्नी और उनका पुत्र अश्वत्थामा| पुत्र की अवस्था पांच-छ: वर्ष की थी|
“Lomasa said, ‘At that very time, the mighty king, Vrihadyumna, of highfortune, who was the Yajamana of Raivya, commenced a sacrifice. And thetwo sons of Raivya, Arvavasu and Paravasu, were engaged by thatintelligent monarch, to assist him in the performance of the ceremony.
“Sanjaya said, ‘When the ruler of the Sindhus checked the Pandavas,desirous of success, the battle that took place then between thy troopsand the enemy became awful.
“Akritavrana said, ‘Jamadagni devoted himself to the study of the Vedaand the practice of sacred penances, and became famous for his greatausterities.
“Vaisampayana said, ‘Having cooked, according to due rites, the otherexcellent animals that were sacrificed, the priests then sacrificed,agreeably to the injunctions of the scriptures, that steed (which hadwandered over the whole world).
