द्रुपद का पुत्रेष्टि यज्ञ
प्राचीन भारत में पुत्रेष्टि यज्ञ के द्वारा तेजस्वी पुत्र प्राप्त करने की प्रथा थी| जब किसी बहुत बड़े नृपति को संतान का अभाव दुख देता था, तो वह ऋषियों और महात्माओं के द्वारा पुत्रेष्टि यज्ञ कराता था| यज्ञ के कुंड से हवि बाहर निकलती थी| उस हवि को खाने से मनचाहे पुत्र की प्राप्ति होती थी| पांचाल देश के नृपति के कई पुत्र थे, फिर भी उन्होंने तेजस्वी पुत्र की प्राप्ति के लिए पुतेष्टि यज्ञ कराया था| उन्होंने पुत्र होने पर भी पुतेष्टि यज्ञ क्यों कराया था – इस बात को नीचे की कहानी में जानिए –
