एवम उक्तः परत्युवाच तं मुनिं जनमेजयः
गर्ह्यं भवान गर्हयति निन्द्यं निन्दति मा भवान
1 Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
“Markandeya said, ‘That heroic king of the vultures, Jatayu, havingSampati for his uterine brother and Arjuna himself for his father, was afriend of Dasaratha.
“Bhishma said, ‘Janadeva of the race of Janaka, thus instructed by thegreat Rishi Panchasikha, once more asked him about the topic of existenceor nonexistence after death.’

इत्य उक्तवति वाक्यं तु कृष्णे देवकिनन्दने
भीष्मं शांतनवं भूयः पर्यपृच्छद युधिष्ठिरः
एक समय की बात है। एक शहर में एक धनी आदमी रहता था। उसकी लंबी-चौड़ी खेती-बाड़ी थी और वह कई तरह के व्यापार करता था। बड़े विशाल क्षेत्र में उसके बगीचे फैले हुए थे, जहां पर भांति-भांति के फल लगते थे।
“Vaisampayana said, ‘The royal son of Kunti, freed from grief and thefever of his heart, took his seat, with face eastwards, on excellent seatmade of gold.
“Vaisampayana said, ‘Thus addressed by king Yudhishthira, Vidura, thatforemost of all intelligent persons, returned to Dhritarashtra and saidunto him these words of grave import.
प्राचीन काल की बात है| व्यास नाम के एक वृद्ध पुरुष भारत भूमि पर रहते थे| व्यास बहुत ही बुद्धिमान और विद्वान थे| वे सदा चिंतन-मनन में लगे रहते थे| ऋषिवर व्यास भिन्न-भिन्न विषयों पर गहराई से सोच-विचार किया करते थे|
