रत्नापुरी के राजा चन्द्रभान के बड़े पुत्र राजकुमार ने अपने मनोरंजन के लिए वानरों की टोली और पीछे राजकुमार ने भेड़ों का झुंड पाल रखा था| वानर तो राजउधान में पेड़ों के फल खाकर सुखी जीवन व्यतीत कर रहे थे किन्तु भेड़ें प्रायः अवसर पाकर राजमहल के भोजनालय में घुस जाती और जो कुछ हाथ लगता, खा जाती|

यह कथा द्वापरयुग की है जब भगवान श्रीकृष्ण के सुदर्शन चक्र ने काशी को जलाकर राख कर दिया था। बाद में यह वाराणसी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ। यह कथा इस प्रकार हैः
बादशाह अकबर जितने अच्छे शासक थे उतने ही अच्छे इंसान भी| उनका विनोदप्रिय स्वभाव सभी को भाता था|
