“Uma said, ‘O holy one, O thou that didst tear off the eyes of Bhaga andthe teeth of Pushan, O destroyer of the sacrifice of Daksha, O three-eyeddeity, I have a great doubt. In days of yore, the Self-born One createdthe four orders.
Vaishampayana said, “Listen, O Janamejaya, to the nectar-like words thatVidura said unto the son of Vicitravirya and by which he gladdened thatbull among men!
“Narada said, ‘As soon as that bull among men, king Yayati was recognisedby those virtuous persons, he rose again to heaven, without having had totouch the surface of the earth.
“Sanjaya said, ‘Then king Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, salutingDevaki’s son Janardana, and cheerfully addressed him saying ‘Hast thoupassed the night happily, O slayer of Madhu?
“Janamejaya said, ‘O thou possessed of ascetic wealth, what did thosehigh-souled ones, my grandsires, the illustrious Pandavas, do, afterobtaining the kingdom of Indraprastha? How did their wife Draupadi obeythem all? How is it also that no dissensions arose amongst thoseillustrious rulers of men, all attached to one wife, viz., Krishna?
“Vrihadaswa said, ‘O son of Kunti, the ruler of the Nishadhas havingdwelt there for a month, set out from that city with Bhima’s permissionand accompanied by only a few (followers) for the country of theNishadhas.
“Uma said, ‘Forest recluses reside in delightful regions, among thesprings and fountains of rivers, in bowers by the sides of streams andrills, on hills and mountains, in woods and forests, and in sacred spotsfull of fruits and roots.
Om! Having bowed down unto Narayana and Nara, the foremost of malebeings, and unto the goddess Sarasvati, must the word Jaya be uttered.
“Narada said, ‘Sent back to heaven by those righteous kings,distinguished by the liberality of their sacrificial presents, Yayatipossessed of daughter’s sons, dismissed them and reached the celestialregions.
