“Brahman said, ‘Ye best of beings, I shall now declare to you accuratelywhat (the quality of) Passion is.
“‘Vasishtha said, ‘It is thus, in consequence of his Ignorance and hisassociation with others that are invested with Ignorance, that Jiva hasrecourse to millions and millions of births every one of which hasdissolution in the end.
“Janamejaya said, ‘O utterer of Brahma, thou hast recited (everythingabout) the extraordinary birth among men, of the sons of Dhritarashtra inconsequence of the Rishi’s grace. Thou hast also said what their namesare, according to the order of their birth.
“Vaisampayana said, ‘King Dhritarashtra endued with great wisdom (then)said to the orderly-in-waiting, ‘I desire to see Vidura. Bring him herewithout delay.’
“Vaisampayana said Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, once more asked thegreat Muni Markandeya about the future course of the government of theEarth.
“Brahmana said, ‘I shall, after this discourse to you on that excellentquality which is the third (in the order of our enumeration).
‘”Janaka said, O holy one, it has been said that the relation betweenmale and female is like that which subsists between the Indestructibleand the destructible (or Purusha and Prakriti). Without a male, a femalecan never conceive. Without a female a male also can never create form.
