92. Al-Layl (1 to 21)
By the night when it covers, And [by] the day when it appears, And [by] He who created the male and female,…
1 وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ
wa’l:ayli ‘ʔiða’ yaɣʃay’
By the night when it covers
2 وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ
wa’ln:aha’ri ‘ʔiða’ tajal:ay’
And [by] the day when it appears
3 وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
wama’ xalaqa ‘lð:akara wa’l’ʔunθay’ʔ
And [by] He who created the male and female,
4 إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ
‘ʔin:a saʕyakum laʃat:ay’
Indeed, your efforts are diverse.
5 فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ
fa’ʔam:a’ man ‘ʔaʕṭay’ wa’t:aqay’
As for he who gives and fears Allah
6 وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
waṣad:aqa bi’lḥusnay’
And believes in the best [reward],
7 فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
fasanuyas:iruhuw lilyusray’
We will ease him toward ease.
8 وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
wa’ʔam:a’ manm baxila wa’staɣnay’
But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need
9 وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
wakað:aba bi’lḥusnay’
And denies the best [reward],
10 فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ
fasanuyas:iruhuw lilʕusray’
We will ease him toward difficulty.
11 وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ
wama’ yuɣniy ʕanhu ma’luhuwʔ ‘ʔiða’ tarad:ay’ʔ
And what will his wealth avail him when he falls?
12 إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ
‘ʔin:a ʕalayna’ lalhuday’
Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance.
13 وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْءَاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
wa’ʔin:a lana’ lalʔa’xirata wa’l’ʔuwlay’
And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].
14 فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًۭا تَلَظَّىٰ
fa’ʔanðartukum na’ranm’ talaẓ:ay’
So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing.
15 لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى
la’ yaṣlay’ha’ʔ ‘ʔil:a’ ‘l’ʔaʃqay
None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one.
16 ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
‘l:aðiy kað:aba watawal:ay’
Who had denied and turned away.
17 وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى
wasayujan:abuha’ ‘l’ʔatqay
But the righteous one will avoid it -
18 ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ
‘l:aðiy yuwʔtiy ma’lahuw yatazak:ay’
[He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself
19 وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍۢ تُجْزَىٰٓ
wama’ li’ʔaḥadin ʕindahuw min n:iʕmatinm tujzay’ʔ
And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded
20 إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
‘ʔil:a’ ‘btiɣa’ʔʔa wajhi rab:ihi ‘l’ʔaʕlay’
But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High.
21 وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ
walasawfa yarḍay’
And he is going to be satisfied.
