88. Al-Ghashiyah (1 to 26)

Has there reached you the report of the

Overwhelming [event]?…

88.1

1 ‏هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَشِيَةِ ‎
hal ‘ʔatay’ka ḥadiyèu ‘lɣaʃiyati

Has there reached you the report of the 
Overwhelming [event]?

88.2

2 ‏وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَشِعَةٌ ‎
wujuwhunm yawmayʔiًin xaʃiʕatun

[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,

88.3

3 ‏عَامِلَةٌۭ نَّاصِبَةٌۭ ‎
ʕa’milatunm n:a’ṣibatunm

Working [hard] and exhausted.

88.4

4 ‏تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةًۭ ‎
taṣlay’ na’ran’ ḥa’miyatanm

They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

88.5

5 ‏تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍۢ ‎
tusqay’ min ʕaynin ʔa’niyatinm

They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

88.6

6 ‏لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍۢ ‎
l:aysa lahum ṭaʕa’mun ‘ʔil:a’ min ḍariyʕinm

For them there will be no food except from a 
poisonous, thorny plant

88.7

7 ‏لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍۢ ‎
l:a’ yusminu wala’ yuɣniy min juwʕinm

Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

88.8

8 ‏وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاعِمَةٌۭ ‎
wujuwhunm yawmayʔiًinm n:a’ʕimatunm

[Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.

88.9

9 ‏لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۭ ‎
l:isaʕyiha’ ra’ḍiyatunm

With their effort [they are] satisfied

88.10

10 ‏فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۢ ‎
fiy jan:atin ʕa’liyatinm

In an elevated garden,

88.11

11 ‏لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَغِيَةًۭ ‎
l:a’ tasmaʕu fiyha’ laɣiyatanm

Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.

88.12

12 ‏فِيهَا عَيْنٌۭ جَارِيَةٌۭ ‎
fiyha’ ʕaynunm ja’riyatunm

Within it is a flowing spring.

88.13

13 ‏فِيهَا سُرُرٌۭ مَّرْفُوعَةٌۭ ‎
fiyha’ sururunm m:arfuwʕatunm

Within it are couches raised high

88.14

14 ‏وَأَكْوَابٌۭ مَّوْضُوعَةٌۭ ‎
wa’ʔakwa’bunm m:awḍuwʕatunm

And cups put in place

88.15

15 ‏وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۭ ‎
wanama’riqu maṣfuwfatunm

And cushions lined up

88.16

16 ‏وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ ‎
wazara’biy:u mabèuwèatun

And carpets spread around.

88.17

17 ‏أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ ‎
‘ʔafala’ yanẓuruwna ‘ʔilay ‘l’ʔibili kayfa xuliqat

Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?

88.18

18 ‏وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ ‎
wa’ʔilay ‘ls:ama’ʔʔi kayfa rufiʕat

And at the sky - how it is raised?

88.19

19 ‏وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ ‎
wa’ʔilay ‘ljiba’li kayfa nuṣibat

And at the mountains - how they are erected?

88.20

20 ‏وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ ‎
wa’ʔilay ‘l’ʔarḍi kayfa suṭiḥat

And at the earth - how it is spread out?

88.21

21 ‏فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌۭ ‎
faًak:ir ‘ʔin:ama’ʔ ‘ʔanta muًak:irunm

So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.

88.22

22 ‏لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ ‎
l:asta ʕalayhim bimuṣayṭirin

You are not over them a controller.

88.23

23 ‏إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ ‎
‘ʔil:a’ man tawal:ay’ wakafara

However, he who turns away and disbelieves -

88.24

24 ‏فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ ‎
fayuʕað:ibuhu ‘ll:ahu ‘lʕaða’ba ‘l’ʔakbara

Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

88.25

25 ‏إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ ‎
‘ʔin:a ‘ʔilayna’ʔ ‘ʔiya’bahum

Indeed, to Us is their return.

88.26

26 ‏ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم ‎
èum:a ‘ʔin:a ʕalayna’ ḥisa’bahum

Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
