87. Al-Ala (1 to 19)
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High, Who created and proportioned, And who destined and [then] guided, And who brings out the pasture…
1 سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى
sab:iḥi ‘sma rab:ika ‘l’ʔaʕlay
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
2 ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
‘l:aðiy xalaqa fasaw:ay’
Who created and proportioned
3 وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
wa’l:aðiy qad:ara fahaday’
And who destined and [then] guided
4 وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ
wa’l:aðiyʔ ‘ʔaxraja ‘lmarʕay’
And who brings out the pasture
5 فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ
fajaʕalahuw ɣuèa’ʔʔan ‘ʔaḥway’
And [then] makes it black stubble.
6 سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ
sanuqriyʔuka fala’ tansay’ʔ
We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget,
7 إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ
‘ʔil:a’ ma’ ʃa’ʔʔa ‘ll:ahu j ‘ʔin:ahuw yaʕlamu ‘ljahra wama’ yaxfay’
Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.
8 وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
wanuyas:iruka lilyusray’
And We will ease you toward ease.
9 فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
faًak:ir ‘ʔin n:afaʕati ‘lً:ikray’
So remind, if the reminder should benefit;
10 سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ
sayaً:ak:aru man yaxʃay’
He who fears [ Allah ] will be reminded.
11 وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى
wayatajan:abuha’ ‘l’ʔaʃqay
But the wretched one will avoid it -
12 ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
‘l:aًiy yaṣlay ‘ln:a’ra ‘lkubray’
[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,
13 ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
èum:a la’ yamuwtu fiyha’ wala’ yaḥyay’
Neither dying therein nor living.
14 قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
qad ‘ʔaflaḥa man tazak:ay’
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself
15 وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ
waًakara ‘sma rab:ihiy faṣal:ay’
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
16 بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
bal tuwʔèiruwna ‘lḥayaw’ta ‘ld:unya’
But you prefer the worldly life,
17 وَٱلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
wa’lʔa’xiratu xayrunm wa’ʔabqay’ʔ
While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
18 إِنَّ هَذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
‘ʔin:a haًa’ lafiy ‘lṣ:uḥufi ‘l’ʔuwlay’
Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,
19 صُحُفِ إِبْرَهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
ṣuḥufi ‘ʔibrahiyma wamuwsay’
The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
