83. Al-Mutaffifin (1 to 36)
Woe to those who give less [than due], Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full., But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they …
1 وَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
waylunm l:ilmuṭaf:ifiyna
Woe to those who give less [than due],
2 ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ
‘l:aðiyna ‘ʔiða’ ‘kta’luw’ ʕalay ‘ln:a’si yastawfuwna
Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.
3 وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ
wa’ʔiða’ ka’luwhum ‘ʔaw w:azanuwhum yuxsiruwna
But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.
4 أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ
‘ʔala’ yaẓun:u ‘ʔuwlaʔyʔika ‘ʔan:ahum m:abʕuwèuwna
Do they not think that they will be resurrected
5 لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ
liyawmin ʕaẓiyminm
For a tremendous Day -
6 يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَلَمِينَ
yawma yaquwmu ‘ln:a’su lirab:i ‘lʕalamiyna
The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?
7 كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍۢ
kal:a’ʔ ‘ʔin:a kitaba ‘lfuj:a’ri lafiy sij:iyninm
No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.
8 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌۭ
wama’ʔ ‘ʔadray’ka ma’ sij:iynunm
And what can make you know what is sijjeen?
9 كِتَبٌۭ مَّرْقُومٌۭ
kitabunm m:arquwmunm
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.
10 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers,
11 ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
‘l:aًiyna yukaً:ibuwna biyawmi ‘ld:iyni
Who deny the Day of Recompense.
12 وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
wama’ yukaً:ibu bihiyʔ ‘ʔil:a’ kul:u muʕtadin ‘ʔaèiymin
And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.
13 إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَتُنَا قَالَ أَسَطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
‘ʔiًa’ tutlay’ ʕalayhi ʔa’yatuna’ qa’la ‘ʔasaṭiyru ‘l’ʔaw:aliyna
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
14 كَلَّا ۖ بَلْۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
kal:a’ sl’ bals ra’na ʕalay’ quluwbihim m:a’ ka’nuw’ yaksibuwna
No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
15 كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
kal:a’ʔ ‘ʔin:ahum ʕan r:ab:ihim yawmayʔiًinm l:amaḥjuwbuwna
No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.
16 ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
èum:a ‘ʔin:ahum laṣa’luw’ ‘ljaḥiymi
Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.
17 ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
èum:a yuqa’lu haًa’ ‘l:aًiy kuntum bihiy tukaً:ibuwna
Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."
18 كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ
kal:a’ʔ ‘ʔin:a kitaba ‘l’ʔabra’ri lafiy ʕil:iy:iyna
No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun.
19 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ
wama’ʔ ‘ʔadray’ka ma’ ʕil:iy:uwna
And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun?
20 كِتَبٌۭ مَّرْقُومٌۭ
kitabunm m:arquwmunm
It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed
21 يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
yaʃhaduhu ‘lmuqar:abuwna
Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah ].
22 إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ
‘ʔin:a ‘l’ʔabra’ra lafiy naʕiymin
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure
23 عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
ʕalay ‘l’ʔara’ʔyʔiki yanẓuruwna
On adorned couches, observing.
24 تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
taʕrifu fiy wujuwhihim naḍrata ‘ln:aʕiymi
You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.
25 يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍۢ مَّخْتُومٍ
yusqawna min r:aḥiyqinm m:axtuwmin
They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.
26 خِتَمُهُۥ مِسْكٌۭ ۚ وَفِى ذَلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَفِسُونَ
xitamuhuw miskunm j wafiy ًalika falyatana’fasi ‘lmutanafisuwna
The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.
27 وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ
wamiza’juhuw min tasniymin
And its mixture is of Tasneem,
28 عَيْنًۭا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
ʕaynanm’ yaʃrabu biha’ ‘lmuqar:abuwna
A spring from which those near [to Allah ] drink.
29 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ
‘ʔin:a ‘l:aًiyna ‘ʔajramuw’ ka’nuw’ mina ‘l:aًiyna ʔa’manuw’ yaḍḥakuwna
Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
30 وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
wa’ʔiًa’ mar:uw’ bihim yataɣa’mazuwna
And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.
31 وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ
wa’ʔiًa’ ‘nqalabuwʔ’ ‘ʔilay’ʔ ‘ʔahlihimu ‘nqalabuw’ fakihiyna
And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.
32 وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ
wa’ʔiًa’ ra’ʔawhum qa’luwʔ’ ‘ʔin:a haʔwʔula’ʔʔi laḍa’ʔl:uwna
And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."
33 وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِظِينَ
wama’ʔ ‘ʔursiluw’ ʕalayhim ḥafiẓiyna
But they had not been sent as guardians over them.
34 فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
fa’lyawma ‘l:aًiyna ʔa’manuw’ mina ‘lkuf:a’ri yaḍḥakuwna
So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,
35 عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
ʕalay ‘l’ʔara’ʔyʔiki yanẓuruwna
On adorned couches, observing.
36 هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
hal èuw:iba ‘lkuf:a’ru ma’ ka’nuw’ yafʕaluwna
Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
