ʕabas watawal:ay’ʔ
The Prophet frowned and turned away
‘ʔan ja’ʔʔahu ‘l’ʔaʕmay’
Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].
But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified
‘ʔaw yað:ak:aru fatanfaʕahu ‘lð:ikray’ʔ
Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
‘ʔam:a’ mani ‘staɣnay’
As for he who thinks himself without need,
fa’ʔanta lahuw taṣad:ay’
To him you give attention.
wama’ ʕalayka ‘ʔal:a’ yaz:ak:ay’
And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.
wa’ʔam:a’ man ja’ʔʔaka yasʕay’
But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]
wahuwa yaxʃay’
While he fears [ Allah ],
fa’ʔanta ʕanhu talah:ay’
From him you are distracted.
kal:a’ʔ ‘ʔin:aha’ taðkiratunm
No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;
faman ʃa’ʔʔa ðakarahuw
So whoever wills may remember it.
fiy ṣuḥufinm m:ukar:amatinm
[It is recorded] in honored sheets,
m:arfuwʕatinm m:uṭah:aratinm
Exalted and purified,
bi’ʔaydiy safaratinm
[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,
kira’minm bararatinm
Noble and dutiful.
qutila ‘l’ʔinsanu ma’ʔ ‘ʔakfarahuw
Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.
min ‘ʔay:i ʃayʔin xalaqahuw
From what substance did He create him?
min n:uṭfatin xalaqahuw faqad:arahuw
From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;
èum:a ‘ls:abiyla yas:arahuw
Then He eased the way for him;
èum:a ‘ʔama’tahuw fa’ʔaqbarahuw
Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.
èum:a ‘ʔiًa’ ʃa’ʔʔa ‘ʔanʃarahuw
Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.
kal:a’ lam:a’ yaqḍi ma’ʔ ‘ʔamarahuw
No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.
falyanẓuri ‘l’ʔinsanu ‘ʔilay’ ṭaʕa’mihiyʔ
Then let mankind look at his food -
‘ʔan:a’ ṣababna’ ‘lma’ʔʔa ṣab:anm’
How We poured down water in torrents,
èum:a ʃaqaqna’ ‘l’ʔarḍa ʃaq:anm’
Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],
fa’ʔanmbatna’ fiyha’ ḥab:anm’
And caused to grow within it grain
waʕinabanm’ waqaḍbanm’
And grapes and herbage
wazaytuwnanm’ wanaxlanm’
And olive and palm trees
waḥada’ʔyʔiqa ɣulbanm’
And gardens of dense shrubbery
wafakihatanm wa’ʔab:anm’
And fruit and grass -
m:ataʕanm’ l:akum wali’ʔanʕamikum
[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.
fa’ʔiًa’ ja’ʔʔati ‘lṣ:a’ʔx:atu
But when there comes the Deafening Blast
yawma yafir:u ‘lmarʔu min ‘ʔaxiyhi
On the Day a man will flee from his brother
wa’ʔum:ihiy wa’ʔabiyhi
And his mother and his father
waṣaḥibatihiy wabaniyhi
And his wife and his children,
likul:i ‘mriyʔinm m:inhum yawmayʔiًinm ʃa’ʔnunm yuɣniyhi
For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.
wujuwhunm yawmayʔiًinm m:usfiratunm
[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -
ḍa’ḥikatunm m:ustabʃiratunm
Laughing, rejoicing at good news.
wawujuwhunm yawmayʔiًin ʕalayha’ ɣabaratunm
And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.
tarhaquha’ qataratun
Blackness will cover them.
‘ʔuwlaʔyʔika humu ‘lkafaratu ‘lfajaratu
Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
