79. An-Naziat (1 to 46)
By those [angels] who extract with violence, And [by] those who remove with ease, And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming…
wa’ln:aziʕat ɣarqanm’
By those [angels] who extract with violence
wa’ln:aʃiṭati naʃṭanm’
And [by] those who remove with ease
wa’ls:abiḥati sabḥanm’
And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming
fa’ls:abiqati sabqanm’
And those who race each other in a race
fa’lmudab:irati ‘ʔamranm’
And those who arrange [each] matter,
yawma tarjufu ‘lr:a’jifatu
On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],
tatbaʕuha’ ‘lr:a’difatu
There will follow it the subsequent [one].
quluwbunm yawmayʔiðinm wa’jifatun
Hearts, that Day, will tremble,
‘ʔabṣaruha’ xaʃiʕatunm
Their eyes humbled.
yaquwluwna ‘ʔaʔin:a’ lamarduwduwna fiy ‘lḥa’firati
They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?
‘ʔaʔiða’ kun:a’ ʕiẓamanm’ n:axiratanm
Even if we should be decayed bones?
qa’luw’ tilka ‘ʔiðanm’ kar:atun xa’siratunm
They say, "That, then, would be a losing return."
fa’ʔin:ama’ hiya zajratunm waḥidatunm
Indeed, it will be but one shout,
fa’ʔiða’ hum bi’ls:a’hirati
And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.
hal ‘ʔatay’ka ḥadiyèu muwsay’ʔ
Has there reached you the story of Moses? -
‘ʔiً na’day’hu rab:uhuw bi’lwa’di ‘lmuqad:asi ṭuwany
When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,
‘ًhab ‘ʔilay’ firʕawna ‘ʔin:ahuw ṭaɣay’
"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
faqul hal l:aka ‘ʔilay’ʔ ‘ʔan tazak:ay’
And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself
wa’ʔahdiyaka ‘ʔilay’ rab:ika fataxʃay’
And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"
fa’ʔaray’hu ‘lʔa’yata ‘lkubray’
And he showed him the greatest sign,
fakaً:aba waʕaṣay’
But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed.
èum:a ‘ʔadbara yasʕay’
Then he turned his back, striving.
faḥaʃara fana’day’
And he gathered [his people] and called out
faqa’la ‘ʔana’ rab:ukumu ‘l’ʔaʕlay’
And said, "I am your most exalted lord."
fa’ʔaxaًahu ‘ll:ahu naka’la ‘lʔa’xirati wa’l’ʔuwlay’ʔ
So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].
‘ʔin:a fiy ًalika laʕibratanm l:iman yaxʃay’ʔ
Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [ Allah ].
ʔa’ʔantum ‘ʔaʃad:u xalqan’ ‘ʔami ‘ls:ama’ʔʔu j banay’ha’
Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it.
rafaʕa samkaha’ fasaw:ay’ha’
He raised its ceiling and proportioned it.
wa’ʔaɣṭaʃa laylaha’ wa’ʔaxraja ḍuḥay’ha’
And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.
wa’l’ʔarḍa baʕda ًalika daḥay’ha’ʔ
And after that He spread the earth.
‘ʔaxraja minha’ ma’ʔʔaha’ wamarʕay’ha’
He extracted from it its water and its pasture,
wa’ljiba’la ‘ʔarsay’ha’
And the mountains He set firmly
mataʕanm’ l:akum wali’ʔanʕamikum
As provision for you and your grazing livestock.
fa’ʔiًa’ ja’ʔʔati ‘lṭ:a’ʔm:atu ‘lkubray’
But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -
The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,
wabur:izati ‘ljaḥiymu liman yaray’
And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -
fa’ʔam:a’ man ṭaɣay’
So as for he who transgressed
waʔa’èara ‘lḥayaw’ta ‘ld:unya’
And preferred the life of the world,
fa’ʔin:a ‘ljaḥiyma hiya ‘lma’ʔway’
Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.
wa’ʔam:a’ man xa’fa maqa’ma rab:ihiy wanahay ‘ln:afsa ʕani ‘lhaway’
But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
fa’ʔin:a ‘ljan:ata hiya ‘lma’ʔway’
Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.
yasʔaluwnaka ʕani ‘ls:a’ʕati ‘ʔay:a’na mursay’ha’
They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?
fiyma ‘ʔanta min ًikray’ha’ʔ
In what [position] are you that you should mention it?
‘ʔilay’ rab:ika muntahay’ha’ʔ
To your Lord is its finality.
‘ʔin:ama’ʔ ‘ʔanta munًiru man yaxʃay’ha’
You are only a warner for those who fear it.
ka’ʔan:ahum yawma yarawnaha’ lam yalbaèuwʔ’ ‘ʔil:a’ ʕaʃiy:atan ‘ʔaw ḍuḥay’ha’
It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.
