77. Al-Mursalat (1 to 50)
By those [winds] sent forth in gusts, And the winds that blow violently, And [by] the winds that spread [clouds], And those [angels] who bring criterion…
1 وَٱلْمُرْسَلَتِ عُرْفًۭا
wa’lmursalati ʕurfanm’
By those [winds] sent forth in gusts
2 فَٱلْعَصِفَتِ عَصْفًۭا
fa’lʕaṣifati ʕaṣfanm’
And the winds that blow violently
3 وَٱلنَّشِرَتِ نَشْرًۭا
wa’ln:aʃirati naʃranm’
And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]
4 فَٱلْفَرِقَتِ فَرْقًۭا
fa’lfariqati farqanm’
And those [angels] who bring criterion
5 فَٱلْمُلْقِيَتِ ذِكْرًا
fa’lmulqiyati ðikran’
And those [angels] who deliver a message
6 عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا
ʕuðran’ ‘ʔaw nuðran’
As justification or warning,
7 إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَقِعٌۭ
‘ʔin:ama’ tuwʕaduwna lawaqiʕunm
Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.
8 فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ
fa’ʔiða’ ‘ln:ujuwmu ṭumisat
So when the stars are obliterated
9 وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ
wa’ʔiða’ ‘ls:ama’ʔʔu furijat
And when the heaven is opened
10 وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ
wa’ʔiða’ ‘ljiba’lu nusifat
And when the mountains are blown away
11 وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ
wa’ʔiða’ ‘lr:usulu ‘ʔuq:itat
And when the messengers' time has come...
12 لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ
li’ʔay:i yawmin ‘ʔuj:ilat
For what Day was it postponed?
13 لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِ
liyawmi ‘lfaṣli
For the Day of Judgement.
14 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ
wama’ʔ ‘ʔadray’ka ma’ yawmu ‘lfaṣli
And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?
15 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiðinm l:ilmukað:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
16 أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
‘ʔalam nuhliki ‘l’ʔaw:aliyna
Did We not destroy the former peoples?
17 ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
èum:a nutbiʕuhumu ‘lʔa’xiriyna
Then We will follow them with the later ones.
18 كَذَلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
kaًalika nafʕalu bi’lmujrimiyna
Thus do We deal with the criminals.
19 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
20 أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍۢ مَّهِينٍۢ
‘ʔalam naxluqk:um m:in m:a’ʔʔinm m:ahiyninm
Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?
21 فَجَعَلْنَهُ فِى قَرَارٍۢ مَّكِينٍ
fajaʕalnahu fiy qara’rinm m:akiynin
And We placed it in a firm lodging
22 إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ
‘ʔilay’ qadarinm m:aʕluwminm
For a known extent.
23 فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَدِرُونَ
faqadarna’ faniʕma ‘lqadiruwna
And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.
24 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
25 أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا
‘ʔalam najʕali ‘l’ʔarḍa kifa’tan’
Have We not made the earth a container
26 أَحْيَآءًۭ وَأَمْوَتًۭا
‘ʔaḥya’ʔʔanm wa’ʔamwatanm’
Of the living and the dead?
27 وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَسِىَ شَمِخَتٍۢ وَأَسْقَيْنَكُم مَّآءًۭ فُرَاتًۭا
wajaʕalna’ fiyha’ rawasiya ʃamixatinm wa’ʔasqaynakum m:a’ʔʔanm fura’tanm’
And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.
28 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
29 ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
‘nṭaliquwʔ’ ‘ʔilay’ ma’ kuntum bihiy tukaً:ibuwna
[They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.
30 ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّۢ ذِى ثَلَثِ شُعَبٍۢ
‘nṭaliquwʔ’ ‘ʔilay’ ẓil:inm ًiy èalaèi ʃuʕabinm
Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns
31 لَّا ظَلِيلٍۢ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ
l:a’ ẓaliylinm wala’ yuɣniy mina ‘ll:ahabi
[But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."
32 إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍۢ كَٱلْقَصْرِ
‘ʔin:aha’ tarmiy biʃararinm ka’lqaṣri
Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,
33 كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَلَتٌۭ صُفْرٌۭ
ka’ʔan:ahuw jimalatunm ṣufrunm
As if they were yellowish [black] camels.
34 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
35 هَذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ
haًa’ yawmu la’ yanṭiquwna
This is a Day they will not speak,
36 وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ
wala’ yuwʔًanu lahum fayaʕtaًiruwna
Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.
37 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
38 هَذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
haًa’ yawmu ‘lfaṣli sl’ jamaʕnakum wa’l’ʔaw:aliyna
This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.
39 فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌۭ فَكِيدُونِ
fa’ʔin ka’na lakum kaydunm fakiyduwni
So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.
40 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
41 إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَلٍۢ وَعُيُونٍۢ
‘ʔin:a ‘lmut:aqiyna fiy ẓilalinm waʕuyuwninm
Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs
42 وَفَوَكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
wafawakiha mim:a’ yaʃtahuwna
And fruits from whatever they desire,
43 كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
kuluw’ wa’ʃrabuw’ haniyʔʔanm’ bima’ kuntum taʕmaluwna
[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
44 إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
‘ʔin:a’ kaًalika najziy ‘lmuḥsiniyna
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
45 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
46 كُلُوا۟ وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ
kuluw’ watamat:aʕuw’ qaliylan’ ‘ʔin:akum m:ujrimuwna
[O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.
47 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiًinm l:ilmukaً:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
48 وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ لَا يَرْكَعُونَ
wa’ʔiًa’ qiyla lahumu ‘rkaʕuw’ la’ yarkaʕuwna
And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.
49 وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
waylunm yawmayʔiðinm l:ilmukað:ibiyna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
50 فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ
fabi’ʔay:i ḥadiyèinm baʕdahuw yuwʔminuwna
Then in what statement after the Qur'an will they believe?
