75. Al-Qiyamah (1 to 40)
I swear by the Day of Resurrection, And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of , Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?, Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips…
1 لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَمَةِ
la’ʔ ‘ʔuqsimu biyawmi ‘lqiyamati
I swear by the Day of Resurrection
2 وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
wala’ʔ ‘ʔuqsimu bi’ln:afsi ‘ll:aw:a’mati
And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].
3 أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
‘ʔayaḥsabu ‘l’ʔinsanu ‘ʔal:an n:ajmaʕa ʕiẓa’mahuw
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
4 بَلَىٰ قَدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
balay’ qadiriyna ʕalay’ʔ ‘ʔan n:usaw:iya bana’nahuw
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
5 بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
bal yuriydu ‘l’ʔinsanu liyafjura ‘ʔama’mahuw
But man desires to continue in sin.
6 يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَمَةِ
yasʔalu ‘ʔay:a’na yawmu ‘lqiyamati
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
7 فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ
fa’ʔiða’ bariqa ‘lbaṣaru
So when vision is dazzled
8 وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ
waxasafa ‘lqamaru
And the moon darkens
9 وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ
wajumiʕa ‘lʃ:amsu wa’lqamaru
And the sun and the moon are joined,
10 يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ
yaquwlu ‘l’ʔinsanu yawmayʔiðin ‘ʔayna ‘lmafar:u
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"
11 كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
kal:a’ la’ wazara
No! There is no refuge.
12 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
‘ʔilay’ rab:ika yawmayʔiðin ‘lmustaqar:u
To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.
13 يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
yunab:awʔu’ ‘l’ʔinsanu yawmayʔiðinm bima’ qad:ama wa’ʔax:ara
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
14 بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌۭ
bali ‘l’ʔinsanu ʕalay’ nafsihiy baṣiyratunm
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
15 وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
walaw ‘ʔalqay’ maʕa’ðiyrahuw
Even if he presents his excuses.
16 لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ
la’ tuḥar:ik bihiy lisa’naka litaʕjala bihiyʔ
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.
17 إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
‘ʔin:a ʕalayna’ jamʕahuw waqurʔa’nahuw
Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
18 فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ
fa’ʔiða’ qara’ʔnahu fa’t:abiʕ qurʔa’nahuw
So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
19 ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
èum:a ‘ʔin:a ʕalayna’ baya’nahuw
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].
20 كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
kal:a’ bal tuḥib:uwna ‘lʕa’jilata
No! But you love the immediate
21 وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ
wataًaruwna ‘lʔa’xirata
And leave the Hereafter.
22 وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاضِرَةٌ
wujuwhunm yawmayʔiًinm n:a’ḍiratun
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,
23 إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌۭ
‘ʔilay’ rab:iha’ na’ẓiratunm
Looking at their Lord.
24 وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌۭ
wawujuwhunm yawmayʔiًinm ba’siratunm
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,
25 تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌۭ
taẓun:u ‘ʔan yufʕala biha’ fa’qiratunm
Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.
26 كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
kal:a’ʔ ‘ʔiًa’ balaɣati ‘lt:ara’qiya
No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
27 وَقِيلَ مَنْۜ رَاقٍۢ
waqiyla mans ra’qinm
And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"
28 وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ
waẓan:a ‘ʔan:ahu ‘lfira’qu
And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
29 وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
wa’ltaf:ati ‘ls:a’qu bi’ls:a’qi
And the leg is wound about the leg,
30 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ
‘ʔilay’ rab:ika yawmayʔiًin ‘lmasa’qu
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
31 فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
fala’ ṣad:aqa wala’ ṣal:ay’
And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.
32 وَلَكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
walakin kaً:aba watawal:ay’
But [instead], he denied and turned away.
33 ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
èum:a ًahaba ‘ʔilay’ʔ ‘ʔahlihiy yatamaṭ:ay’ʔ
And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].
34 أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
‘ʔawlay’ laka fa’ʔawlay’
Woe to you, and woe!
35 ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
èum:a ‘ʔawlay’ laka fa’ʔawlay’ʔ
Then woe to you, and woe!
36 أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
‘ʔayaḥsabu ‘l’ʔinsanu ‘ʔan yutraka sudany
Does man think that he will be left neglected?
37 أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةًۭ مِّن مَّنِىٍّۢ يُمْنَىٰ
‘ʔalam yaku nuṭfatanm m:in m:aniy:inm yumnay’
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?
38 ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
èum:a ka’na ʕalaqatanm faxalaqa fasaw:ay’
Then he was a clinging clot, and [ Allah ] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
39 فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
fajaʕala minhu ‘lz:awjayni ‘lً:akara wa’l’ʔunèay’ʔ
And made of him two mates, the male and the female.
40 أَلَيْسَ ذَلِكَ بِقَدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْۦِىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
‘ʔalaysa ًalika biqadirin ʕalay’ʔ ‘ʔan yuḥyiya ‘lmawtay’
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
