107. Al-Maun (1 to 7)
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?, For that is the one who drives away the orphan, And does not encourage the feeding of the poor…
1 أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ
‘ʔaraʔayta ‘l:aðiy yukað:ibu bi’ld:iyni
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
2 فَذَلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
faðalika ‘l:aðiy yaduʕ:u ‘lyatiyma
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
3 وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
wala’ yaḥuḍ:u ʕalay’ ṭaʕa’mi ‘lmiskiyni
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
4 فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ
fawaylunm l:ilmuṣal:iyna
So woe to those who pray
5 ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ
‘l:aðiyna hum ʕan ṣala’tihim sa’huwna
[But] who are heedless of their prayer -
6 ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ
‘l:aðiyna hum yura’ʔʔuwna
Those who make show [of their deeds]
7 وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ
wayamnaʕuwna ‘lma’ʕuwna
And withhold [simple] assistance.
