53a. An-Najm (1 to 50)
By the Star when it setteth , Your comrade erreth not , nor is deceived ;, Nor doth he speak of ( his own ) desire ., It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired ,…
وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ (1)
Waalnnajmi itha hawa
By the Star when it setteth ,
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ (2)
Ma dalla sahibukum wama ghawa
Your comrade erreth not , nor is deceived ;
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ (3)
Wama yantiqu AAani alhawa
Nor doth he speak of ( his own ) desire .
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ (4)
In huwa illa wahyun yooha
It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired ,
عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ (5)
AAallamahu shadeedu alquwa
Which one of mighty powers hath taught him ,
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ (6)
Thoo mirratin faistawa
One vigorous ; and he grew clear to view
وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ (7)
Wahuwa bialofuqi alaAAla
When he was on the uppermost boon .
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ (8)
Thumma dana fatadalla
Then be drew nigh and came down
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ (9)
Fakana qaba qawsayni aw adna
Till he was ( distant ) two bows length or even nearer ,
فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ (10)
Faawha ila AAabdihi ma awha
And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed .
مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ (11)
Ma kathaba alfuadu ma raa
The heart lied not ( in seeing ) what it saw .
أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ (12)
Afatumaroonahu AAala ma yara
Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth?
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ (13)
Walaqad raahu nazlatan okhra
And verily he saw him , yet another time
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنتَهَىٰ (14)
AAinda sidrati almuntaha
By the lote tree of the utmost boundary ,
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ (15)
AAindaha jannatu almawa
Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode .
إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ (16)
Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha
When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote tree ,
مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ (17)
Ma zagha albasaru wama tagha
The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold .
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ (18)
Laqad raa min ayati rabbihi alkubra
Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord .
أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّىٰ (19)
Afaraaytumu allata waalAAuzza
Have ye thought upon Al Lat and Al Uzza
وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ (20)
Wamanata alththalithata alokhra
And Manat , the third , the other?
أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الْأُنثَىٰ (21)
Alakumu alththakaru walahu alontha
Are yours the males and His the females?
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰ (22)
Tilka ithan qismatun deeza
That indeed were an unfair division!
إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُم مَّا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَانٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ الْهُدَىٰ (23)
In hiya illa asmaon sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wama tahwa alanfusu walaqad jaahum min rabbihimu alhuda
They are but names which ye have named , ye and your fathers , for which Allah hath revealed no warrant . They follow but a guess and that which ( they ) themselves desire . And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them .
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ (24)
Am lilinsani ma tamanna
Or shall man have what he coveteth?
فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَىٰ (25)
Falillahi alakhiratu waaloola
But unto Allah belongeth the after ( life ) , and the former .
۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَىٰ (26)
Wakam min malakin fee alssamawati la tughnee shafaAAatuhum shayan illa min baAAdi an yathana Allahu liman yashao wayarda
And how many angels are in the heavens whose intercession availeth naught save after Allah giveth leave to whom He chooseth and accepteth!
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنثَىٰ (27)
Inna allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati layusammoona almalaikata tasmiyata alontha
Lo! it is those who disbelieve in the Hereafter who name the angels with the names of females .
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا (28)
Wama lahum bihi min AAilmin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wainna alththanna la yughnee mina alhaqqi shayan
And they have no knowledge thereof . They follow but a guess , and lo! a guess can never take the place of the truth .
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (29)
FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAan thikrina walam yurid illa alhayata alddunya
Then withdraw ( O Muhammad ) from him who fleeth from Our remembrance and desireth but the life of the world .
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ (30)
Thalika mablaghuhum mina alAAilmi inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bimani ihtada
Such is their sum of knowledge . Lo! thy Lord is best aware of him who strayeth , and He is best aware of him who goeth right .
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى (31)
Walillahi ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi liyajziya allatheena asaoo bima AAamiloo wayajziya allatheena ahsanoo bialhusna
And unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth , that He may reward those who do evil with that which they have done , and reward those who do good with goodness .
الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ (32)
Allatheena yajtaniboona kabaira alithmi waalfawahisha illa allamama inna rabbaka wasiAAu almaghfirati huwa aAAlamu bikum ith anshaakum mina alardi waith antum ajinnatun fee butooni ommahatikum fala tuzakkoo anfusakum huwa aAAlamu bimani ittaqa
Those who avoid enormities of sin and abominations , save the unwilled offences ( for them ) lo! thy Lord is of vast mercy . He is best aware of you ( from the time ) when He created you from the earth , and when ye were hidden in the bellies of your mothers . Therefor ascribe not purity unto yourselves . He is best aware of him who wardeth off ( evil ) .
أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ (33)
Afaraayta allathee tawalla
Didst thou ( O Muhammad ) observe him who turned away ,
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰ (34)
WaaAAta qaleelan waakda
And gave a little , then was grudging?
أَعِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰ (35)
aAAindahu AAilmu alghaybi fahuwa yara
Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth?
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ (36)
Am lam yunabba bima fee suhufi moosa
Or hath he not had news of what is in the books of Moses
وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّىٰ (37)
Waibraheema allathee waffa
And Abraham who paid his debt :
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ (38)
Alla taziru waziratun wizra okhra
That no laden one shall bear another ' s load ,
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ (39)
Waan laysa lilinsani illa ma saAAa
And that man hath only that for which be maketh effort ,
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ (40)
Waanna saAAyahu sawfa yura
And that his effort will be seen ,
ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الْأَوْفَىٰ (41)
Thumma yujzahu aljazaa alawfa
And afterward be will be repaid for it with fullest payment ;
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الْمُنتَهَىٰ (42)
Waanna ila rabbika almuntaha
And that thy Lord , He is the goal ;
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ (43)
Waannahu huwa adhaka waabka
And that He it is Who maketh laugh , and maketh weep ,
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا (44)
Waannahu huwa amata waahya
And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life ;
وَأَنَّهُ خَلَقَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنثَىٰ (45)
Waannahu khalaqa alzzawjayni alththakara waalontha
And that He createth the two spouses , the male and the female ,
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ (46)
Min nutfatin itha tumna
From a drop ( of seed ) when it is poured forth ;
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ (47)
Waanna AAalayhi alnnashata alokhra
And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth ;
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ (48)
Waannahu huwa aghna waaqna
And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth :
وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَىٰ (49)
Waannahu huwa rabbu alshshiAAra
And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius ;
وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَىٰ (50)
Waannahu ahlaka AAadan aloola
And that He destroyed the former ( tribe of ) Aad ,
