7c. Al-Araf (101 to 150)
Such were the townships . We relate some tidings of them
unto thee ( Muhammad ) . Their messengers verily came …
تِلْكَ الْقُرَىٰ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنبَائِهَا ۚ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَمَا كَانُوا لِيُؤْمِنُوا بِمَا كَذَّبُوا مِن قَبْلُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ الْكَافِرِينَ (101)
Tilka alqura naqussu AAalayka min anbaiha walaqad jaathum rusuluhum bialbayyinati fama kanoo liyuminoo bima kaththaboo min qablu kathalika yatbaAAu Allahu AAala quloobi alkafireena
Such were the townships . We relate some tidings of them unto thee ( Muhammad ) . Their messengers verily came unto them with clear proofs ( of Allah ' s Sovereignty ) , but they could not believe because they had before denied . Thus doth Allah print upon the hearts of disbelievers ( that they hear not ) .
وَمَا وَجَدْنَا لِأَكْثَرِهِم مِّنْ عَهْدٍ ۖ وَإِن وَجَدْنَا أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَفَاسِقِينَ (102)
Wama wajadna liaktharihim min AAahdin wain wajadna aktharahum lafasiqeena
We found no ( loyalty to any ) covenant in most of them . Nay , most of them We found wrong doers .
ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَظَلَمُوا بِهَا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُفْسِدِينَ (103)
Thumma baAAathna min baAAdihim moosa biayatina ila firAAawna wamalaihi fathalamoo biha faonuthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu almufsideena
Then , after them , We sent Moses with our tokens unto Pharaoh and his chiefs , but they repelled them . Now , see the nature of the consequence for the corrupters!
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ يَا فِرْعَوْنُ إِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (104)
Waqala moosa ya firAAawnu innee rasoolun min rabbi alAAalameena
Moses said : O Pharaoh! Lo! I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds ,
حَقِيقٌ عَلَىٰ أَن لَّا أَقُولَ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْحَقَّ ۚ قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِبَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعِيَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ (105)
Haqeequn AAala an la aqoola AAala Allahi illa alhaqqa qad jitukum bibayyinatin min rabbikum faarsil maAAiya banee israeela
Approved upon condition that I speak concerning Allah nothing but the truth I come unto you ( lords of Egypt ) with a clear proof from your Lord . So let the Children of Israel go with me .
قَالَ إِن كُنتَ جِئْتَ بِآيَةٍ فَأْتِ بِهَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ (106)
Qala in kunta jita biayatin fati biha in kunta mina alssadiqeena
( Pharaoh ) said : If thou comest with a token , then produce it , if thou art of those who speak the truth .
فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ (107)
Faalqa AAasahu faitha hiya thuAAbanun mubeenun
Then he flung down his staff and lo! it was a serpent manifest ;
وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَاءُ لِلنَّاظِرِينَ (108)
WanazaAAa yadahu faitha hiya baydao lilnnathireena
And he drew forth his hand ( from his bosom ) : and lo! it was white for the beholders .
قَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَاحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ (109)
Qala almalao min qawmi firAAawna inna hatha lasahirun AAaleemun
The chiefs of Pharaoh ' s people said : Lo! this is some knowing wizard ,
يُرِيدُ أَن يُخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُمْ ۖ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ (110)
Yureedu an yukhrijakum min ardikum famatha tamuroona
Who would expel you from your land . Now what do ye advise?
قَالُوا أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَأَرْسِلْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ (111)
Qaloo arjih waakhahu waarsil fee almadaini hashireena
They said ( unto Pharaoh ) : Put him off ( a while ) him and his brother and send into the cities summoners ,
يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَاحِرٍ عَلِيمٍ (112)
Yatooka bikulli sahirin AAaleemin
To bring each knowing wizard unto thee .
وَجَاءَ السَّحَرَةُ فِرْعَوْنَ قَالُوا إِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ الْغَالِبِينَ (113)
Wajaa alssaharatu firAAawna qaloo inna lana laajran in kunna nahnu alghalibeena
And the wizards came to Pharaoh , saying : Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors .
قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ لَمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ (114)
Qala naAAam wainnakum lamina almuqarrabeena
He answered : Yea , and surely ye shall be of those brought near ( to me ) .
قَالُوا يَا مُوسَىٰ إِمَّا أَن تُلْقِيَ وَإِمَّا أَن نَّكُونَ نَحْنُ الْمُلْقِينَ (115)
Qaloo ya moosa imma an tulqiya waimma an nakoona nahnu almulqeena
They said : O Moses! Either throw ( first ) or let us be the first throwers?
قَالَ أَلْقُوا ۖ فَلَمَّا أَلْقَوْا سَحَرُوا أَعْيُنَ النَّاسِ وَاسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْ وَجَاءُوا بِسِحْرٍ عَظِيمٍ (116)
Qala alqoo falamma alqaw saharoo aAAyuna alnnasi waistarhaboohum wajaoo bisihrin AAatheemin
He said : Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people ' s eyes , and overawed them , and produced a mighty spell .
۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنْ أَلْقِ عَصَاكَ ۖ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ (117)
Waawhayna ila moosa an alqi AAasaka faitha hiya talqafu ma yafikoona
And We inspired Moses ( saying ) : Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show .
فَوَقَعَ الْحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (118)
FawaqaAAa alhaqqu wabatala ma kanoo yaAAmaloona
Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain .
فَغُلِبُوا هُنَالِكَ وَانقَلَبُوا صَاغِرِينَ (119)
Faghuliboo hunalika wainqalaboo saghireena
Thus were they there defeated and brought low .
وَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ (120)
Waolqiya alssaharatu sajideena
And the wizards fell down prostrate ,
قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (121)
Qaloo amanna birabbi alAAalameena
Crying : We believe in the Lord of the Worlds ,
رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ (122)
Rabbi moosa waharoona
The Lord of Moses and Aaron .
قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ آمَنتُم بِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ آذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَمَكْرٌ مَّكَرْتُمُوهُ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ لِتُخْرِجُوا مِنْهَا أَهْلَهَا ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ (123)
Qala firAAawnu amantum bihi qabla an athana lakum inna hatha lamakrun makartumoohu fee almadeenati litukhrijoo minha ahlaha fasawfa taAAlamoona
Pharaoh said : Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence . But ye shall come to know!
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَافٍ ثُمَّ لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ (124)
LaoqatiAAanna aydiyakum waarjulakum min khilafin thumma laosallibannakum ajmaAAeena
Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides . Then I shall crucify you every one .
قَالُوا إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ (125)
Qaloo inna ila rabbina munqaliboona
They said : Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord!
وَمَا تَنقِمُ مِنَّا إِلَّا أَنْ آمَنَّا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَاءَتْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ (126)
Wama tanqimu minna illa an amanna biayati rabbina lamma jaatna rabbana afrigh AAalayna sabran watawaffana muslimeena
Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us . Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered ( unto Thee ) .
وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ أَتَذَرُ مُوسَىٰ وَقَوْمَهُ لِيُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَيَذَرَكَ وَآلِهَتَكَ ۚ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَنَسْتَحْيِي نِسَاءَهُمْ وَإِنَّا فَوْقَهُمْ قَاهِرُونَ (127)
Waqala almalao min qawmi firAAawna atatharu moosa waqawmahu liyufsidoo fee alardi wayatharaka waalihataka qala sanuqattilu abnaahum wanastahyee nisaahum wainna fawqahum qahiroona
The chiefs of Pharaoh ' s people said : ( O King ) , wilt thou suffer Moses and his people to make mischief in the land , and flout thee and thy gods? He said : We will slay their sons and spare their women , for lo! we are in power over them .
قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ اسْتَعِينُوا بِاللَّهِ وَاصْبِرُوا ۖ إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ يُورِثُهَا مَن يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ ۖ وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ (128)
Qala moosa liqawmihi istaAAeenoo biAllahi waisbiroo inna alarda lillahi yoorithuha man yashao min AAibadihi waalAAaqibatu lilmuttaqeena
And Moses said unto his people : Seek help in Allah and endure . Lo! the earth is Allah ' s . He giveth it for an inheritance to whom He will . And lo! the sequel is for those who keep their duty ( unto Him ) .
قَالُوا أُوذِينَا مِن قَبْلِ أَن تَأْتِيَنَا وَمِن بَعْدِ مَا جِئْتَنَا ۚ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُهْلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ (129)
Qaloo ootheena min qabli an tatiyana wamin baAAdi ma jitana qala AAasa rabbukum an yuhlika AAaduwwakum wayastakhlifakum fee alardi fayanthura kayfa taAAmaloona
They said : We suffered hurt before thou camest unto us , since thou hast come unto us . He said : it may be that your Lord is going to destroy your adversary and make you viceroys in the earth , that He may see how ye behave .
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ بِالسِّنِينَ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ (130)
Walaqad akhathna ala firAAawna bialssineena wanaqsin mina alththamarati laAAallahum yaththakkaroona
And We straitened Pharaoh ' s folk with famine and the dearth of fruits , that peradventure they might heed .
فَإِذَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الْحَسَنَةُ قَالُوا لَنَا هَٰذِهِ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَطَّيَّرُوا بِمُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُ ۗ أَلَا إِنَّمَا طَائِرُهُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ (131)
Faitha jaathumu alhasanatu qaloo lana hathihi wain tusibhum sayyiatun yattayyaroo bimoosa waman maAAahu ala innama tairuhum AAinda Allahi walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona
But whenever good befell them , they said : This is ours ; and whenever evil smote them they ascribed it to the evil auspices of Moses and those with him . Surely their evil auspice was only with Allah . But most of them knew not .
وَقَالُوا مَهْمَا تَأْتِنَا بِهِ مِنْ آيَةٍ لِّتَسْحَرَنَا بِهَا فَمَا نَحْنُ لَكَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ (132)
Waqaloo mahma tatina bihi min ayatin litasharana biha fama nahnu laka bimumineena
And they said : Whatever portent thou bringest when with to bewitch us , we shall not put faith in thee .
فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ الطُّوفَانَ وَالْجَرَادَ وَالْقُمَّلَ وَالضَّفَادِعَ وَالدَّمَ آيَاتٍ مُّفَصَّلَاتٍ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ (133)
Faarsalna AAalayhimu alttoofana waaljarada waalqummala waalddafadiAAa waalddama ayatin mufassalatin faistakbaroo wakanoo qawman mujrimeena
So We sent them the flood and the locusts and the vermin and the frogs and the blood a succession of clear signs . But they were arrogant and became guilty .
وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّجْزُ قَالُوا يَا مُوسَى ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ ۖ لَئِن كَشَفْتَ عَنَّا الرِّجْزَ لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ (134)
Walamma waqaAAa AAalayhimu alrrijzu qaloo ya moosa odAAu lana rabbaka bima AAahida AAindaka lain kashafta AAanna alrrijza lanuminanna laka walanursilanna maAAaka banee israeela
And when the terror fell on them they cried : O Moses! Pray for us unto thy Lord , because He hath a covenant with thee . If thou removest the terror from us we verily will trust thee and will let the Children of Israel go with thee .
فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْزَ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ هُم بَالِغُوهُ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ (135)
Falamma kashafna AAanhumu alrrijza ila ajalin hum balighoohu itha hum yankuthoona
But when We did remove from them the terror for a term which they must reach , behold! they broke their covenant
فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ فِي الْيَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِلِينَ (136)
Faintaqamna minhum faaghraqnahum fee alyammi biannahum kaththaboo biayatina wakanoo AAanha ghafileena
Therefore We took retribution from them ; therefore We drowned them in the sea : because they denied Our revelations and were heedless of them .
وَأَوْرَثْنَا الْقَوْمَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا يُسْتَضْعَفُونَ مَشَارِقَ الْأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا ۖ وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ الْحُسْنَىٰ عَلَىٰ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا ۖ وَدَمَّرْنَا مَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ فِرْعَوْنُ وَقَوْمُهُ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْرِشُونَ (137)
Waawrathna alqawma allatheena kanoo yustadAAafoona mashariqa alardi wamagharibaha allatee barakna feeha watammat kalimatu rabbika alhusna AAala banee israeela bima sabaroo wadammarna ma kana yasnaAAu firAAawnu waqawmuhu wama kanoo yaAArishoona
And We caused the folk who were devised to inherit the eastern parts of the land and the western parts thereof which We had blessed . And the fair word of the Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their endurance ; and We annihilated ( all ) that Pharaoh and his folk had done and that they had contrived .
وَجَاوَزْنَا بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْبَحْرَ فَأَتَوْا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ يَعْكُفُونَ عَلَىٰ أَصْنَامٍ لَّهُمْ ۚ قَالُوا يَا مُوسَى اجْعَل لَّنَا إِلَٰهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ آلِهَةٌ ۚ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ (138)
Wajawazna bibanee israeela albahra faataw AAala qawmin yaAAkufoona AAala asnamin lahum qaloo ya moosa ijAAal lana ilahan kama lahum alihatun qala innakum qawmun tajhaloona
And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea , and they came unto a people who were given up to idols which they had . They said : O Moses! Make for us a god even as they have gods . He said : Lo! ye are a folk who know not .
إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ مُتَبَّرٌ مَّا هُمْ فِيهِ وَبَاطِلٌ مَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (139)
Inna haolai mutabbarun ma hum feehi wabatilun ma kanoo yaAAmaloona
Lo! as for these , their way will be destroyed and all that they are doing is in vain .
قَالَ أَغَيْرَ اللَّهِ أَبْغِيكُمْ إِلَٰهًا وَهُوَ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ (140)
Qala aghayra Allahi abgheekum ilahan wahuwa faddalakum AAala alAAalameena
He said : Shall I seek for you a god other than Allah when He hath favored you above ( all ) creatures?
وَإِذْ أَنجَيْنَاكُم مِّنْ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوءَ الْعَذَابِ ۖ يُقَتِّلُونَ أَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَاءَكُمْ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكُم بَلَاءٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ (141)
Waith anjaynakum min ali firAAawna yasoomoonakum sooa alAAathabi yuqattiloona abnaakum wayastahyoona nisaakum wafee thalikum balaon min rabbikum AAatheemun
And ( remember ) when We did deliver you from Pharaoh ' s folk who were afflicting you with dreadful torment , slaughtering your sons and sparing your women . That was a tremendous trial from your Lord .
۞ وَوَاعَدْنَا مُوسَىٰ ثَلَاثِينَ لَيْلَةً وَأَتْمَمْنَاهَا بِعَشْرٍ فَتَمَّ مِيقَاتُ رَبِّهِ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ۚ وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَخِيهِ هَارُونَ اخْلُفْنِي فِي قَوْمِي وَأَصْلِحْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ (142)
WawaAAadna moosa thalatheena laylatan waatmamnaha biAAashrin fatamma meeqatu rabbihi arbaAAeena laylatan waqala moosa liakheehi haroona okhlufnee fee qawmee waaslih wala tattabiAA sabeela almufsideena
And when We did appoint for Moses thirty nights ( of solitude ) , and added to them ten , and he completed the whole time appointed by his Lord of forty nights ; and Moses said unto his brother : Take my place among the people . Do right , and follow not the way of mischief makers .
وَلَمَّا جَاءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِيقَاتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُ رَبُّهُ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِي أَنظُرْ إِلَيْكَ ۚ قَالَ لَن تَرَانِي وَلَٰكِنِ انظُرْ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَإِنِ اسْتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُ فَسَوْفَ تَرَانِي ۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُ لِلْجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا ۚ فَلَمَّا أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبْحَانَكَ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (143)
Walamma jaa moosa limeeqatina wakallamahu rabbuhu qala rabbi arinee anthur ilayka qala lan taranee walakini onthur ila aljabali faini istaqarra makanahu fasawfa taranee falamma tajalla rabbuhu liljabali jaAAalahu dakkan wakharra moosa saAAiqan falamma afaqa qala subhanaka tubtu ilayka waana awwalu almumineena
And when Moses came to Our appointed tryst and his Lord had spoken unto him , he said : My Lord! Show me ( Thy self ) , that I may gaze upon Thee . He said : Thou wilt not see Me , but gaze upon the mountain! If it stand still in its place , then thou wilt see Me . And when his Lord revealed ( His ) glory to the mountain He sent it crashing down . And Moses fell down senseless . And when he woke he said : Glory unto Thee! I turn unto Thee repentant , and I am the first of ( true ) believers .
قَالَ يَا مُوسَىٰ إِنِّي اصْطَفَيْتُكَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بِرِسَالَاتِي وَبِكَلَامِي فَخُذْ مَا آتَيْتُكَ وَكُن مِّنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ (144)
Qala ya moosa innee istafaytuka AAala alnnasi birisalatee wabikalamee fakhuth ma ataytuka wakun mina alshshakireena
He said : O Moses ! I have preferred thee above mankind by My messages and by My speaking ( unto thee ) . So hold that which I have given thee , and be among the thankful .
وَكَتَبْنَا لَهُ فِي الْأَلْوَاحِ مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَّوْعِظَةً وَتَفْصِيلًا لِّكُلِّ شَيْءٍ فَخُذْهَا بِقُوَّةٍ وَأْمُرْ قَوْمَكَ يَأْخُذُوا بِأَحْسَنِهَا ۚ سَأُرِيكُمْ دَارَ الْفَاسِقِينَ (145)
Wakatabna lahu fee alalwahi min kulli shayin mawAAithatan watafseelan likulli shayin fakhuthha biquwwatin wamur qawmaka yakhuthoo biahsaniha saoreekum dara alfasiqeena
And We wrote for him , upon the tablets , the lesson to be drawn from all things and the explanation of all things , then ( bade him ) : Hold it fast ; and command thy people ( saying ) : Take the better ( course made clear ) therein . I shall show thee the abode of evil livers .
سَأَصْرِفُ عَنْ آيَاتِيَ الَّذِينَ يَتَكَبَّرُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَإِن يَرَوْا كُلَّ آيَةٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُوا بِهَا وَإِن يَرَوْا سَبِيلَ الرُّشْدِ لَا يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِيلًا وَإِن يَرَوْا سَبِيلَ الْغَيِّ يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِيلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِلِينَ (146)
Saasrifu AAan ayatiya allatheena yatakabbaroona fee alardi bighayri alhaqqi wain yaraw kulla ayatin la yuminoo biha wain yaraw sabeela alrrushdi la yattakhithoohu sabeelan wain yaraw sabeela alghayyi yattakhithoohu sabeelan thalika biannahum kaththaboo biayatina wakanoo AAanha ghafileena
I shall turn away from My revelations those who magnify themselves wrongfully in the earth , and if they see each token believe it not , and if they see the way of righteousness choose it not for ( their ) way , and if they see the way of error choose it for ( their ) way . That is because they deny Our revelations and are used to disregard them .
وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَلِقَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ ۚ هَلْ يُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ (147)
Waallatheena kaththaboo biayatina waliqai alakhirati habitat aAAmaluhum hal yujzawna illa ma kanoo yaAAmaloona
Those who deny Our revelations and the meeting of the Hereafter , their works are fruitless . Are they requited aught save what they used to do?
وَاتَّخَذَ قَوْمُ مُوسَىٰ مِن بَعْدِهِ مِنْ حُلِيِّهِمْ عِجْلًا جَسَدًا لَّهُ خُوَارٌ ۚ أَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّهُ لَا يُكَلِّمُهُمْ وَلَا يَهْدِيهِمْ سَبِيلًا ۘ اتَّخَذُوهُ وَكَانُوا ظَالِمِينَ (148)
Waittakhatha qawmu moosa min baAAdihi min huliyyihim AAijlan jasadan lahu khuwarun alam yaraw annahu la yukallimuhum wala yahdeehim sabeelan ittakhathoohu wakanoo thalimeena
And the folk of Moses , after ( he had left them ) , chose a calf ( for worship ) , ( made ) out of their ornaments , of saffron hue , which gave a lowing sound . Saw they not that it spake not unto them nor guided them to any way? They chose it , and became wrong doers .
وَلَمَّا سُقِطَ فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ وَرَأَوْا أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ ضَلُّوا قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ يَرْحَمْنَا رَبُّنَا وَيَغْفِرْ لَنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ (149)
Walamma suqita fee aydeehim waraaw annahum qad dalloo qaloo lain lam yarhamna rabbuna wayaghfir lana lanakoonanna mina alkhasireena
And when they feared the consequences thereof and saw that they had gone astray , they said : Unless our Lord have mercy on us and forgive us , we verily are of the lost .
وَلَمَّا رَجَعَ مُوسَىٰ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ غَضْبَانَ أَسِفًا قَالَ بِئْسَمَا خَلَفْتُمُونِي مِن بَعْدِي ۖ أَعَجِلْتُمْ أَمْرَ رَبِّكُمْ ۖ وَأَلْقَى الْأَلْوَاحَ وَأَخَذَ بِرَأْسِ أَخِيهِ يَجُرُّهُ إِلَيْهِ ۚ قَالَ ابْنَ أُمَّ إِنَّ الْقَوْمَ اسْتَضْعَفُونِي وَكَادُوا يَقْتُلُونَنِي فَلَا تُشْمِتْ بِيَ الْأَعْدَاءَ وَلَا تَجْعَلْنِي مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ (150)
Walamma rajaAAa moosa ila qawmihi ghadbana asifan qala bisama khalaftumoonee min baAAdee aAAajiltum amra rabbikum waalqa alalwaha waakhatha birasi akheehi yajurruhu ilayhi qala ibna omma inna alqawma istadAAafoonee wakadoo yaqtuloonanee fala tushmit biya alaAAdaa wala tajAAalnee maAAa alqawmi alththalimeena
And when Moses returned unto his people , angry and grieved , he said : Evil is that ( course ) which ye took after I had left you . Would ye hasten on the judgment of your Lord? And he cast down the tablets , and he seized his brother by the head , dragging him toward him . He said : Son of my mother! Lo! the folk did judge me weak and almost killed me . Oh , make not mine enemies to triumph over me and place me not among the evil doers!
