दुर्यॊधनं मॊचयित्वा पाण्डुपुत्रा महाबलाः
किम अकार्षुर वने तस्मिंस तन ममाख्यातुम अर्हसि
महर्षि विश्वामित्र – रामायण
महर्षि विश्वामित्र महाराज गाधिके पुत्र थे| कुश्वंशमें पैदा होनेके कारण इन्हें कौशिक भी कहते हैं| ये बड़े ही प्रजापालक तथा धर्मात्मा राजा थे| एक बार ये सेनाको साथ लेकर जंगलमें शिकार खेलनेके लिये गये| वहाँपर वे महर्षि वसिष्ठके आश्रमपर पहुँचे|महर्षि वसिष्ठने इनसे इनकी तथा राज्यकी कुशल-श्रेम पूछी और सेनासहित आतिथ्य-सत्कार स्वीकार करनेकी प्रार्थना की|

Chapter 311
“Yudhishthira said, ‘It behoveth thee, O grandsire, to discourse to me onthat which is freed from duty and its reverse, which is freed from everydoubt, which transcends birth and death, as also virtue and sin, which isauspiciousness, which is eternal fearlessness, which is Eternal andIndestructible, and Immutable, which is always Pure, and which is everfree from the toil of exertion.’
लालची राजा
यूरोप में यूनान नामका एक देश है| यूनान में पुराने समय में मिदास नामका एक राजा राज्य करता था| राजा मिदास बड़ा ही लालची था| अपनी पुत्री को छोड़कर उसे दूसरी कोई वस्तु संसार में प्यारी थी तो बस सोना ही प्यारा था|वह रात में सोते-सोते भी सोना इकठ्ठा करने का स्वप्न देखा करता था|

जनमेजय और सरमा
एक बार जनमेजय अपने भाई श्रुतसेन, और भीमसेन के साथ यज्ञ कर रहे थे| उस बीच एक कुत्ता यज्ञशाला में घुस गया| कुत्ते को उस पवित्र यज्ञशाला में देखकर सभी बड़े क्रुद्ध हुए और जनमेजय के तीनों भाइयों ने उस कुत्ते को खूब मारा, जिससे कुत्ता रोता हुआ अपनी मां सरमा के पास पहुंचा|
