मार्कण्डेयं महात्मानम ऊचुः पाण्डुसुतास तदा
माहात्म्यं दविजमुख्यानां शरॊतुम इच्छाम कथ्यताम
प्रारब्ध और पुरुषार्थ
प्राचीन काल में मालव देश में एक ब्राह्मण रहता था, जो बहुत ही धर्मनिष्ठ एवं भद्र पुरुष था| उसका नाम था – यज्ञदत्त! यज्ञदत्त के दो बेटे भी थे, जिनके नाम कालेनेमी एवं विगतभय थे|
अहिंसा और शान्ति
एक व्यक्ति ने कबूतर और गाय पाल रखे थे| एक दिन कबूतर गाय के पास दाना से अन्न चुगने लगा| गाय बोली, “तुम मार भोजन नहीं खा सकते| जाओ तथा कुछ और खोजो|” कबूतर को आपत्ति अच्छी नहीं लगी|
राम झरोखे बैठ के सब का मुजरा लेत
राम झरोखे बैठ के सब का मुजरा लेत ।
जैसी जाकी चाकरी वैसा वाको देत ॥
राम करे सो होय रे मनवा राम करे सो होये ॥
