“Yudhishthira said, ‘I desire, O king, to hear thee discourse in detailupon those high ordinances which regulate gifts of kine, for it is bymaking gifts (of kine) according to those ordinances that one attains toinnumerable regions of eternal felicity.’

एतावद अनुपश्यन्तॊ यतयॊ यान्ति मार्गगाः
नैषां सर्वेषु लॊकेषु कश चिद अस्ति वयतिक्रमः
“Duryodhana said, ‘Tell me, O grandsire, how Sikhandin, O Ganga’s son,having before been born a daughter, afterwards became a man, O foremostof warriors.’
“Sanjaya said, ‘That elephant force of thine, O king, swelling withmight, fought everywhere, prevailing over the Pandava force. Resolved togo to the other world, the Panchalas and the Kauravas fought with oneanother for admission into the swelling domains of Yama.
यह गोल आकार का और थोड़े कसैले स्वाद का फल है| इसका छिलका तरबूज के छिलके की भांति थोड़ा सख्त होता है, तथा भीतर खरबूजे की भांति गूदा भरा होता है|
प्रायः देखा गया है कि जानवरों में कुत्ता सबसे ज्यादा लालची होता है| वह रोटी के टुकड़े के लिए एक द्वार से दूसरे द्वार पर भटकता रहता था| उसको भर पेट भोजन कभी नहीं मिलता था| अपितु कभी-कभी डंडे भी खाने पड़ते थे|
कहते हैं कि राजा बलि के कारागर में श्री लक्ष्मी जी सब देवताओं के साथ बंधन में थीं। आज के दिन ही कार्तिक कृष्ण अमावस्या को भगवान विष्णु जी ने वामन अवतार धारण कर उन सबको बंधन से छुड़ाया था। बंधन मुक्त होते ही सभी देवता भगवती श्री लक्ष्मी जी के साथ क्षीर-सागर में जाकर सो गए थे।
