एक राजा के घर में तीन स्तनों वाली कन्या पैदा हुई तो राजा ने उसे मुसीबत समझकर अपने नौकरों से कहा कि इसे जंगल में फेंक आओ|
1 बृहदश्व उवाच
उत्सृज्य दमयन्तीं तु नलॊ राजा विशां पते
ददर्श दावं दह्यन्तं महान्तं गहने वने
“Bhishma said, They that are conversant with ancient history recite thefollowing verse of Daksha, the son of Prachetas: That maiden, in respectof whom nothing is taken by her kinsmen in the form of dowry cannot besaid to be sold.

पृच्छतस तव सत पुत्र यथावद इह तत्त्वतः
सांख्यन्यायेन संयुक्तं यद एतत कीर्तितं मया

अहमद शाह अब्दाली से महादजी सिंधिया का युद्ध चल रहा था। दोनों ओर के सैनिक वीरतापूर्वक लड़ रहे थे। लड़ते-लड़ते एक अवसर ऐसा आया कि सिंधिया बुरी तरह से घायल हो गए। उनके शरीर के प्रत्येक अंग से रक्त बह रहा था और वे लगभग अचेत अवस्था में आ गए। ऐसी स्थिति में राणो नामक भिश्ती उन्हें अपने बैल पर लादकर युद्ध मैदान से दूर एक जंगल में ले गया।

इदं शरीरं कौन्तेय कषेत्रम इत्य अभिधीयते
एतद यॊ वेत्ति तं पराहुः कषेत्रज्ञ इति तद्विदः
