Chapter 125

“Vidura said, ‘Worshipped by the good and abandoning pride, that good manwho pursueth his objects without outstepping the limits of his power,soon succeedeth in winning fame, for they that are good, when gratifiedwith a person, are certainly competent to bestow happiness on him.
Vaisampayana said, “O son of Kuru, they, Yudhishthira and others, havingreached the forest of Kamyaka, were, hospitably received by hosts ofsaints and they lived together with Krishna.
“Brahmana said, ‘The wheel of life moves on. It has the understanding forits strength; the mind for the pole (on which it rests); the group ofsenses for its bonds, the (five) great elements for its nave, and homefor its circumference.
“Yajnavalkya said, I have, one after another, told thee the order of thecreation, with their total number, of the various principles, as also theextent of the duration of each.
“Vaisampayana said, ‘The godlike Rishis, wise in counsels, beholding thedeath of Pandu, consulted with one another, and said, ‘The virtuous andrenowned king Pandu, abandoning both sovereignty, and kingdom came hitherfor practising ascetic austerities and resigned himself to the asceticsdwelling on this mountain. He hath hence ascended to heaven, leaving hiswife and infant sons as a trust in our hands. Our duty now is to repairto his kingdom with these his offspring, and his wife.’
“Dhritarashtra said, ‘If there is anything still left unsaid by thee, OVidura, say it then, as I am ready to listen to thee. The discourse is,indeed, charming.’
Vaisampayana said, “While they were dwelling at that place, there set inthe season of the rains, the season that puts an end to the hot weatherand is delightful to all animated beings.
“Brahmana said, ‘Duly studying thus to the best of his power, in the waydescribed above, and likewise living as a
‘Yajnavalkya said, Brahmanas conversant with the topics of enquiry speakof the two feet as Adhyatma, the act of walking as Adhibhuta, and Vishnuas Adhidaivatam (of those two limbs).
